Does Lothar Matthäus pass on his footballer genes?
The record national player has four children, but according to him only one has the potential for a football career.
Munich – Anyone who has a father who goes by the name Lothar Matthäus finds it difficult to avoid football.
It's not easy having a famous father who arguably set the bar unattainably high.
Milan Matthäus (9) seems to be coping well with it.
The football legend's son is just as passionate about football as his father.
And apparently inherited his talent.
“Milan is on the way to becoming a tough defender and is really talented,” revealed the record international player in an interview with the
Augsburger Allgemeine
.

When asked which of his four children had a talent for football, Matthäus replied: “Only my youngest!” The Sky expert personally takes care of his nine-year-old son's football development: he trains his son's youth team, which plays at TSV Grünwald kicks.
On the squares in Munich's posh suburb, Matthäus sometimes adopts a harsh tone - anyone who makes mistakes is punished with push-ups.
But the 1990 world champion doesn't put any pressure on his offspring, he's still too young for that.
He sees talent, but it will “only come into play in ten years.”

Lothar Matthäus talks about life in his patchwork family: “The contact is there”
In 2022 he said of son Milan: "He has some things that I really like, but he definitely has things that need to be improved."
Matthew was married five times and has four children from three different women.
He says about his patchwork family: “The contact is there and everyone does it the way they want.
My other three children are all over 30 and grown up, so we don't have to see each other every week anymore.
But we are in regular contact.”

In public, Matthäus most often appears on TV as a Sky expert.
In the past, he has regularly clashed with his former club FC Bayern in particular.
Recently, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel repeatedly felt treated unfairly by Matthäus and his Sky colleague Didi Hamann.
“I didn't attack Thomas Tuchel for anything he didn't say himself.
He himself emphasized that the team was not performing and that he was dissatisfied with their performance.
What really surprised me is that Thomas kept coming up with his own stories,” said Matthäus about the discrepancies.
