In the cup, the final four tournaments are coming up for the table tennis clubs from the region.

TSV Hohenpeißenberg has three teams, which also shines in the league.

Hohenpeißenberg

– The matter is quite explosive: In the fight for cup victory at district class level, the Hohenpeißenberg team are dueling among themselves.

Both the second and third teams made it to the Final Four tournament, which will take place on Sunday, March 3rd.

In any case, it is a considerable success for the club from Rigi in Bavaria, as 118 teams from the Upper Bavaria-South district started in the cup.

The teams fought for a place in the final in five rounds.

TSV Hohenpeißenberg II and III are first in their leagues

The performance in the cup fits in well with the appearances in the league.

The club, whose first team plays a very good role in the South-South West regional league as second in the table, is also doing excellently in the district.

The reasons for this are, on the one hand,

new additions to the first team

(Florian Kaindl, David Bruns, Thomas Bruns) and, on the other hand, a restructuring of the playing system from six to four players.

(The local newspapers in the Weilheim-Schongau district are represented on Instagram under “merkur_wm_sog”.)

As a result, a number of players who were involved in the district league title and promotion to the state league in the 2022/2023 season were moved to the second and even third team.

The goal was set accordingly: It was clear, said TSV player Gerhard Bertl, that the only thing that mattered for the respective teams was the championship.

In this regard, after about two thirds of the season, things are looking good.

TSV Hohenpeißenberg II leads the table in District Class B with 28:0 points and has a whopping six points lead over second-placed TTC Birkland with four games remaining.

In the 14 games there were nine times 8:0.

Martin Goldbrunner (13:0 wins), Thomas Bruns (16:0), David Bruns (10:0), Daniel Vögl (21:0) and Gerhard Bertl (12:0) collected the most points.

The third team's record is also impressive, as they are also still without a loss in District Class D (Group 9) with 22:0 points.

The biggest pursuer, TSV Steingaden II (21:3), is close, but a lot would have to go wrong if the Hohenpeißenberg team were to give up the title.

In the second half of the season, three TSV players played all games: Freddy Haberstock (8:0), Andreas Rößle (6:0) and Tobias Hornik (5:0).

Back to the cup: The third team in particular caused one or two surprises during the course of the competition.

In the round of 16, the team defeated TSV Wolfratshausen, leaders of the District Class A Southeast with no loss points, 4:3.

In an exciting match with two five-set wins, Hohenpeißenberger, who played three leagues lower, prevailed.

The second team managed a rather surprising 4-0 away win against SV Oberbrunn/Unterbrunn, also in the round of 16, who lead the table in the District Class A Northeast.

Speaking of the cup – the Hohenpeißenberg team have another iron in the fire.

Because the first team also qualified for the final four in the district at the level of the association teams (state league/association league).

Among the teams in the district leagues,

SG Peiting-Peißenberg, leaders of the District League South

, made it into the top four.

All three finals will take place at SV Söcking (Franz-Dietrich-Halle, Alersbergstraße).

For the respective tournament winners, explains Hans-Peter Koller, BTTV board member for team sports, the cup continues.

There are a total of 16 table tennis districts in Bavaria.

The winners have the right to take part in the following district championship.

Four top teams at each league level meet, again in a final four - in this case the winners from Upper Bavaria South, Upper Bavaria Central, Swabia North and Swabia South.

Whoever triumphs there can compete for the Bavarian Cup title.
