Eintracht Frankfurt will have to dig deep into their pockets for the rockets fired by their own fans during the friendly in Leipzig.

Frankfurt – Last October, Eintracht Frankfurt used the international break to play a friendly against Chemie Leipzig.

Both clubs have a fan friendship and the SGE wanted to support the regional league club financially with the kick in the construction of the new floodlight system.

But the help is now costing the club dearly.

Eintracht Frankfurt receives a heavy penalty

Both fan camps set off pyrotechnics in the stands and the clubs are now having to pay for it.

As the German Football Association announced, Eintracht Frankfurt has been fined 180,000 euros by the DFB sports court for unsportsmanlike behavior on the part of its supporters, although the club can use 60,000 euros for its own safety measures.

“With these criteria, the sports court took into account, above all, the considerable extent and intensity as well as the dangerousness of the actions of the Frankfurt supporters.

Even if it was 'just' a friendly game against a regional league team with friendly fan groups - without any further potential for aggression - and the New Year's Eve rockets that were fired had only comparatively few individual elements, the massive incidents to be assessed here are in the form of multiple ignitions and “The uncontrollable firing of hundreds of pyrotechnic objects and fireworks rockets cannot be classified as low in terms of the seriousness of the crime and guilt,” says the DFB sports court’s reasons for the verdict.

According to the DFB, the SGE supporters lit at least 91 Bengal fires.

One of them was thrown into the interior in the 32nd minute.

At least six smoke pots were also lit.

Due to heavy smoke, the match had to be interrupted for around three minutes in the 56th minute.

In addition, in the 47th minute, a large number of fireworks rockets were fired from at least eight fireworks batteries across the entire width of the fan block.

Eintracht Frankfurt has to pay 180,000 euros

The Eintracht team, which featured many players from the second row, lost the game 1-2.

Noel Futkeu scored the goal for the Eagles, who spoke of an entertaining game after the game.

“There are great pictures with the fans.

Leipzig did well.

We're not that well-coordinated, but we still have to win.

The boys who came in in the second half did well, like Nacho and Futkeu with our goal.

It was a game with great conditions and a deserved winner,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller after the game.
