Michael Schumacher: Emotional Vettel statements go straight to the heart
It's been a little over ten years since Michael Schumacher's terrible skiing accident, and since then his family and friends have kept the seven-time Formula 1 world champion out of the public eye.
Confidants rarely talk about Schumi.
The documentary “Being Michael Schumacher” was released in December, in which Sebastian Vettel also has his say and talks about the first text message he sent to Michael after the accident.
Shortly afterwards, he also spoke on
RTL
about his relationship with Schumi and talks about the last conversation the two had together: “I told him that I was becoming a father and what was coming for us,” he explains.
Just before the accident, the relationship between the two had become stronger and stronger, said Vettel.
“I just miss my friend.
He would have been so important in recent years.
I would have had so many questions and he certainly could have provided so many answers or inspiration.”

Vettel thinks of the Schumacher family
At the same time, Vettel also knows that the strain on the family is much worse and talks about his Formula 1 protégé. “Mick was a teenager at the time.
I think it's a completely different dimension when your father has an accident and then breaks away in that respect." Mick Schumacher started in Formula 1 in 2021. He received support back then in particular from Vettel, who did the same for Mick as he did back then Schumi for Vettel.
But even after more than ten years, the former Formula 1 driver cannot forget the accident and its consequences.
“It's still very, very difficult to, I don't want to say accept, but to accept that he keeps fighting and he's not doing well.
Of course, I wish him only the best.” For Vettel, it is still a topic that he still thinks about in private today.
