Matthijs de Ligt brought back memories of Marco van Basten against Lazio.
This one once hit with the same technique.
The location also matches.
Munich – FC Bayern are in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League!
The Munich team achieved the liberation they longed for in the second leg of the round of 16 against Lazio.
Central defender Matthijs de Ligt played a key role in this.
The Dutchman delivered an extremely strong performance in Bayern's defense center (
tz
grade 1).
He made life difficult for Lazio striker Ciro Immobile.
And de Ligt's assist for the record champions' second goal amazed the Munich supporters.

It was the second minute of stoppage time in the first half when Matthijs de Ligt fired in a volley.
Immobile unfortunately extended a corner from Joshua Kimmich to the other end of the penalty area.
From there, the Dutch central defender inimitably shot the ball directly in front of the Romans' goal while running backwards.
Thomas Müller was spot on and nodded in the 24-year-old's exemplary preparatory work to make it 2-0.
The defense chief actually wanted to shoot and hit the goal.
His volley reminded some Bayern fans of one of the Dutchman's famous compatriots: "A dream goal that van Basten (
Marco van Basten, editor's note
) would be proud of," wrote one fan enthusiastically on the online platform X (formerly Twitter).
The storm legend scored a goal in the 1988 European Championship final against the Soviet Union with a very similar shooting technique and from an almost identical position.
This secured the title for the Netherlands.

Other fans of the record champions noticed parallels between the two Dutchmen.
“This volley was Van Basten-like,” wrote numerous X-users.
Another nicknamed the Bayern defender, who was preferred over Minjae Kim, Matthijs “van Basten” de Ligt.
“De Ligt awakens his inner van Basten.
“Great technology,” said an FC Bayern fan.
The fact that the former world-class striker also scored his iconic goal against the Soviet Union in Munich could have contributed to this.
He scored in the Olympic Stadium, where the European Championship final was taking place.
To this day, many fans consider his goal to be one of the most beautiful in football history.

Even apart from his technically demanding assist, de Ligt, who is now staying in Munich, was convincing and lived up to his role as head of defense in Thomas Tuchel's ensemble.
Only in the 37th minute did he involuntarily set up a great chance for Lazio's Immobile with his head, which he missed miserably.
De Ligt's Sunday shot against “Le Aquile” was not his first in a Bayern jersey.
Last spring, the Dutchman secured a victory for the record champions with a distance hammer.
