According to a report, Holger Seitz could be replaced as U23 coach in the summer.
It would be a more than surprising decision by FC Bayern.
Munich – Holger Seitz is a legend in FC Bayern’s youth department.
Since taking office at the German industry leader in 2015, the 49-year-old has looked after the club's most important youth teams with the U17, U19 and (now for the third time) U23.
The highlight of his work to date was the 2018/19 season with the Regional League championship, the dramatic rise in relegation against the 2nd team of VfL Wolfsburg and the win in the International Premier League Cup.
As Sportbild claims to have found out, the former professional's mission could still end in the summer.
Accordingly, the club is considering installing U19 coach Rene Maric as his successor from the summer.
The 31-year-old, well connected with sports director Christoph Freund, has been working for the record champions since mid-November.
The position of “team leader for coach development and game ideas” on campus was created for him.
At the beginning of February, Maric also took over the U19 team from Michael Hartmann and led them to the quarter-finals of the Youth League.
Rene Maric as successor to U23 coach Holger Seitz?
It would be a backwards role for FC Bayern
And yet there remain considerable doubts that the Austrian could inherit Seitz in the summer.
“In the end, the main task is to turn players into professionals and not to train coaches,” said Jochen Sauer in November 2022, after two coaches, Martin Demichelis and Sebastian Hoeneß, had used the springboard with the U23 within a very short time.
“We are happy about every coach who develops.
But now we have brought so many coaches who were there for a short time to a higher level that we said we need stability for our players again.”
Seitz promises this.
As the Argentine's successor, he had clearly stated that he wanted to work on Säbener Straße in the long term.
With Maric you would have the next young man who could appear on the radar of higher-class clubs.
According to information from Fussball Vorburg/FuPa Oberbayern, nothing has changed in the direction of the Reds.
Seitz continues to play a key role in FC Bayern's plans as coach of the U23s.
