Lucas Braathen has had a lot of travel-intensive weeks.

Now the ski star has announced his comeback.

His girlfriend played an important role.

Salzburg – The sensation is perfect: ski racer Lucas Braathen returns to the World Cup!

The slalom specialist will start for Brazil next season.

He announced this at a press event in Salzburg.

The 23-year-old resigned in October due to a feud with the Norwegian association.

Shortly afterwards, Braathen set off on a memorable trip to his mother's homeland - and even gave up his apartment in Oslo.

After temporarily ending his career, Braathen decided to fly from Oslo to Brazil with a one-way ticket - apparently unplanned: "I rented out my apartment four days before I left for Brazil," said the ski racer.

This spontaneous move was very important for him: “It was a sign to take this step, to move away from home and try to conquer the world in a new way after my resignation.”

In Brazil he found the inspiration for a comeback.

It was only after a few weeks that Braathen returned to New York and Rome “to celebrate Christmas with my girlfriend and my family,” the slalom ace continued.

“I was homeless, to be honest,” the five-time World Cup winner gave deep insights into his personal situation at the time.

His girlfriend helped him: Slalom ace Braathen had no permanent address before his comeback

However, he found his way around well even without a permanent address.

“Since my girlfriend lives in Paris, I was able to stay with her for a while,” Braathen revealed with a laugh.

While he was still in Brazil, the Brazilian association offered him the opportunity to compete in the World Cup under the flag of his mother's homeland in the future.

In January, in the middle of his odyssey, Braathen decided to accept the offer.

After all, as a child he “discovered his love of sport in the streets of Sao Paulo”.

That's why he now has a permanent apartment again, said Braathen.

The journey that took him halfway around the world over the last few months was “complicated, but that’s my life.” In the meantime, he also stayed in Austria to train with his World Cup colleague AJ Ginnis.

The Norwegian could potentially have started for Germany.

Braathen and ex-ski star Felix Neureuther even said yes to each other virtually to enable a change of association to the German Ski Association (DSV).
