The TV rights for the Bundesliga will be reassigned in the 2025/26 season.
This will probably lead to fewer Saturday games at FC Bayern and BVB.
Frankfurt – The fans were recently able to breathe a sigh of relief.
For the coming TV rights period, the Cartel Office has decided that the broadcasting rights to the Bundesliga can go back to a provider.
Nevertheless, broadcasters and streaming services still have to bid for the TV rights.
This could be annoying for fans of FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.
Bundesliga: New picking rights for TV broadcasters
This year the TV rights to the Bundesliga will be awarded for the next period.
TV channels and streaming services will bid for the rights to the top German league from the 2025/26 season and the next three seasons.
After the award, the pay-TV broadcasters will have more say in the organization of match days.
A new picking right is added for the broadcasters.
Previously there were only two picking rights.
The “First Pick” was intended for the top game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
From the next period onwards, a team can compete ten times instead of the previous eight.
With the “Second Pick” the provider can choose a game for Sunday.
Each team can still be chosen eight times.
The “Third Pick” is new.
This includes the games on Saturday afternoon and Friday evening.
Here each team can be selected ten times.
FC Bayern fans will probably hardly see their club at 3:30 p.m. from the 2025/26 season onwards.

Consequences of the new TV rights: BVB and FC Bayern will hardly be on Saturdays at 3:30 p.m
The DFL's new tender model means that from the 2025/26 season onwards, the teams with the highest coverage in the Bundesliga will probably compete even less often at the usual kick-off time on Saturday at 3.30 p.m.
Games from clubs like FC Bayern or Borussia Dortmund are often played outside of the conference because they are big crowd pullers.
If you take a look at the games scheduled up to the 30th matchday, you will notice that the two top clubs are rarely seen on Saturday afternoons.
By mid-April, FC Bayern will be seen twelve times at the main kick-off time, BVB only eleven times.
This could become even more extreme due to the new tender model for TV rights.

Top teams on 25 match days outside of the conference?
Since one English week per season is planned for the new TV rights period, 33 match days will take place on the weekends as usual.
The new tender model could mean that top teams such as FC Bayern or Borussia Dortmund do not play their games on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on 25 of the 33 match days.
Before the German national team wants to play for the title at the European Championship in their own country in the summer, the TV rights are to be reassigned.
How often there will be the Bundesliga at 3:30 p.m. in Munich or Dortmund will then become apparent.
