The start of a new era of sport on television?
This Tuesday, March 5, the team time trial of the Race to the Sun was notably marked by the unprecedented use of drones, flying over the runners like birds, and offering spectacular images.
An impressive first – in cycling – for this stunning visual device already seen a few days ago above Max Verstappen in F 1 or even since 2022 on the descents of the Alpine Ski World Cup.
In cycling, this is not quite the first time on French television either.
In fact, Tour de France viewers are now used to it.
For thirteen years, France Télévisions, the official broadcaster of the Grande Boucle and Paris-Nice, has used a company specializing in aerial drone photography for the audiovisual sector, Mikefly Prod.
But the images are filmed before the race and only concern landscapes and heritage.
It was therefore the very first time that a cycling race in France was filmed live by drones.
