Marie-Therese Sporer ends her skiing career at the age of 27.
The Austrian looks back on many challenges in an emotional video.
Munich – “It was a really nice time,” says Marie-Therese Sporer, looking back.
And this is now over.
The Austrian ski ace announced her immediate retirement on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old explained her decision in an emotional video on Instagram.
Injuries shape Sporer's skiing career
Sporer, who competed in a total of 38 World Cup and 66 European Cup races in her career, was repeatedly set back by injuries.
This is one of the reasons why the Tyrolean never achieved her big breakthrough.
Four major knee injuries, broken bones and two shoulder operations are just an excerpt from the technical specialist's injury file.
“Injuries have shaped me.
I was able to learn.
They are never pretty, but they are part of competitive sport,” explains Sporer.
In addition to the physical injuries, the 27-year-old had to struggle much more with her mental health.

Sporer always struggles with mental challenges
“What was always the bigger challenge for me was my mental health.
I often fell into deep, dark holes.
I didn't know how to get out of there now.
I never knew: Will the pain go away?
Will I get fit again now?
Will I get well again?
Will I be able to reconnect?
“I lost the joy of skiing at times, but thank God I always managed to find the light in the darkness,” says Sporer, almost in tears.

But the Austrian still doesn't want to miss her time in competitive sports.
“For me, skiing was a school of life that made me the person I am today and I am very grateful for that,” says Sporer.

Now the time has come to say goodbye, even though the 27-year-old says she is doing well mentally and physically today.
"I am tired.
I'm exhausted.
I just don’t enjoy skiing anymore.” The Austrian is now looking forward to the future.
Sporer obviously doesn't find it easy to say goodbye to skiing, just like a Norwegian colleague.
