Jonas Vingegaard (Visma) hit hard on Friday in Tirreno-Adriatico: he won the fifth stage alone, the shortest of the event with 144 km between Torricella Sicura and Valle Castellana in Abruzzo, and took on the leader's jersey.
The Dane, winner of the last two Tour de France, fifth in the general classification at the start of this stage, started 28.8 kilometers from the finish, five kilometers from the summit of San Giacomo (1,160 m), the big difficulty of the day.

At the end of a superb number, he beat the Spaniard Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates), second, and the Australian Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe), third, to the finish line, by 1 min 12 sec, and snatches the leader's blue jersey from the Italian Jonathan Milan.
Big favorite of this event, the Dane started Monday modestly by only taking 9th place in the opening time trial behind the surprise of the leader, the Spaniard Juan Ayuso.
