Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: Verstappen takes his second win of the season

Update from March 9th, 7:51 p.m.:

Oliver Bearman is the youngest Formula 1 driver that Ferrari has ever used.

He not only became driver of the day, but also scored points in P7.

His current teammate Charles Leclerc also praised him after the race: “I'm sure he's extremely proud and it's clear to everyone how talented he is.

It’s definitely only a matter of time before he gets a place in Formula 1.”

Round 50/50: AND THAT’S IT OFFICIAL!

MAX VERSTAPPEN WINS THE SAUDI ARABIA GRAND PRIX.

TEAMMATE PEREZ COMPLETES THE RED BULL FAIRY TALE.

CHARLES LECLERC COMPLETES THE PODIUM AND HÜLKENBERG ALSO HAS REASON TO BE CHEERFUL!

A DESERVED TENTH PLACE.

Lap 49/50:

This was also a very good first race in a Formula 1 car for Bearman.

The Briton is one of the youngest drivers in the history of Formula 1 who will also score points!

Lap 47/50:

This will be another clear victory for Verstappen.

Hülkenberg is also in tenth place and the points are virtually guaranteed.

The two are now separated by more than 12 seconds.

Formula 1 in Jeddah: Hülkenberg on course for points with the help of Magnussen

Lap 43/50:

Zhou has now come into the pits and had a disastrous pit stop!

Hülkenberg is happy because he is now in P10 and in the points, with his teammate behind him with a 20-second penalty.

Lap 41/50:

Norris and Hamilton are both on the soft tires and therefore significantly faster than the drivers in front of them.

Lap 39/50:

After 39 laps, Zhou is the only driver who hasn't pitted yet!

He has to go in at least once and get other tires!

Lap 37/50:

Hamilton now gets the soft tires, there are only 13 laps left to drive.

Alonso just had a brief moment of shock when he got a little too close to the gang, but luckily everything went well!

Lap 34/50:

Hülkenberg now comes to the pit stop and everything went well!

He came out of the pits again ahead of Magnussen and the column of cars.

That's teamwork!

Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia: Haas with calculation to the point?

Lap 33/50:

The Haas team definitely ensures the entertainment value of the race in these laps.

Hülkenberg would now be at a point - if everything goes well at the pit stop - where he would come out ahead of Magnussen and thus he would keep his 10th place and thus also the one point!

Lap 30/50:

Magnussen defends his position hard, but (partly) fairly.

So far, no one else has been able to get past him.

His race was over anyway with the 20-second penalty.

Lap 29/50:

Kevin Magnussen's team gave him the task of stopping the cars behind him.

Because Hülkenberg is currently in P10 and can therefore secure a point for the team.

But he needs enough time between himself and the others for a pit stop.

Lap 27/50:

Piastri just can't get past Hamilton!

Leclerc has finally been able to overtake Norris and now wants to drive into Perez's 5-second window to finish in second place.

Lap 26/50

: Tsunoda wants to get past Magnussen.

You almost want to hold your breath when the two hotheads meet.

At the same time, Albon also tries to overtake Ocon and fails at the corner.

Formula 1 in Jeddah: Magnussen gets another 10-second penalty

Lap 24/50:

Verstappen feels comfortable on the hard tire, every lap he drives faster than the one before.

Leclerc is currently chasing Norris and Oscar Piastri can't get past Lewis Hamilton.

Lap 22/50:

Magnussen seems to be collecting the penalties today.

The Dane received another 10-second penalty for overtaking Tsunoda.

This will be a bitter race for him!

Lap 20/50:

Bearman bites his teeth into Hülkenberg.

The German defends his position mercilessly and doesn't let the Brit get past so easily.

At the start and finish, the Haas has no chance against the Ferrari and has to give up 9th place.

Lap 19/50:

Williams team boss James Vowles talks about the damage to Alex Albon's car after the collision with Magnussen.

Albon is now in P15, but was significantly further ahead before the accident.

Lap 17/50:

Verstappen sets the fastest lap of the race and Perez passes Lando Norris.

The Brit now also has very worn tires.

Bearman tries his luck and wants to get past Hülkenberg, but he's not quite there yet.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: Magnussen gets harsh punishment for tough maneuver

Lap 16/50:

Kevin Magnussen gets a 10-second penalty for a very hard maneuver on Alex Albon.

Piastri just wanted to pass Hamilton, but couldn't brake quickly enough and took the emergency exit. He had to give the place back to the Brit straight away.

Lap 15/50:

Perez gets a 5-second penalty for the “unsafe release” in the pit lane.

It is now even more important for Leclerc to stay behind the Mexican in this second window.

Lap 12/50:

Verstappen tries to get closer to Lando Norris.

He drives in the DRS window and quickly overtakes the Brit at the start and finish.

Teammate Perez also overtook Hamilton in the Mercedes almost at the same time.

Lap 10/50:

Lando Norris leads the restart in Jeddah.

Leclerc had to fight for his position with Piastri.

Nico Hülkenberg was not in the pits during the safety car phase and is currently in P8.

Verstappen remains in Norris' DRS window and wants to get his first place back.

Lap 8/50:

Chaos in the pit lane!

Of course everyone comes to the pit stop now and wants new tires.

There were some close maneuvers between the drivers!

Also between Oliver Bearman and Kevin Magnussen.

Formula 1 in Jeddah: Stroll chases the gang and dismantles his car

Lap 6/50:

Yellow flag and safety car!

Lance Stroll hit.

He first hit the wall with his left wheel, the wheel bracket broke and he crashed head-on into the barrier!

Luckily the Canadian is uninjured, but his race is over.

Lap 5/50:

Leclerc tries to keep up with Perez and regain his second place.

Alonso wants to get past Piastri, but the Aston Martin is having a few problems getting close to the McLaren.

Lap 4/50:

Perez rushed past Leclerc shortly after the start and finish.

The Ferrari had no chance.

Meanwhile, the two Mercedes are doing their laps relatively far back in P7 and P8.

Lap 3/50:

The replay from the start shows that Lando Norris had a jump start!

The Briton will be punished for this.

Lap 2/50:

Verstappen has already driven himself out of Leclerc's DRS window.

The Red Bulls can now put the Monegasque team to task - Perez is right behind in third.

Nico Hülkenberg made up one place after the start.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: Verstappen gets off to a great start and drives away

Lap 1/50:

Gasly has to go straight to the pits; he apparently had gearbox problems on the introductory lap.

The two McLarens held up well in P5 and P6.

Lap 1/50: THE LIGHTS ARE OFF AND THE CARS ARE SHOOTING AWAY!

MAX VERSTAPPEN AND SERGIO PEREZ GET AWAY GREAT.

LECLERC HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS, BUT WAS ABLE TO PERFORM AGAINST PEREZ!

Update from March 9th, 5:48 p.m.:

12 minutes left before the race starts.

Verstappen is the clear favorite: Can he still keep a cool head despite all the drama in the Red Bull racing team?

Or can Charles Leclerc pose a threat to him in P2?

Update from March 9th, 5:29 p.m.:

Carlos Sainz is back at the race track today!

He already let his fans know via Instagram that the appendectomy went well.

But no one expected that he would be running around in the paddock again just one day after his operation.

First report from March 9th, 4:55 p.m.:

Helmut Marko was just interviewed by

Sky

and talked about his conversation with Oliver Mintzlaff.

It was a good conversation, but the top priority must be that the team becomes calmer again.

His contract runs for three more years and he wants to stay with the racing team.

According to his own statement, Helmut Marko will not be leaving Red Bull.

Formula 1 in Jeddah: Chaos at Red Bull – Helmut Marko on the verge of elimination?

Jeddah – The second race of the Formula 1 season takes place in Saudi Arabia and Red Bull's fortunes have been shaky for weeks.

First there was a case against team boss Christian Horner because he was said to have behaved inappropriately towards an employee and now there is talk that Helmut Marko is about to be suspended!

After an internal investigation, Horner was acquitted, but he remains silent about the exact wording of the verdict.

Honda and Ford, as engine suppliers, are said to have asked in writing for complete clarification, Helmut Marko told ORF.

There is a growing gap between the Austrian side and the Thai side of the company.

Helmut Marko said in the

Sky

interview that he had a conversation with the managing directors on Saturday (March 9th) and would see what happens afterwards.

“Everything has to be right for me to want to continue working here,” he finished his sentence.

Max Verstappen made it clear that he felt a deep loyalty to Marko and that he absolutely had to stay at Red Bull.

There's a lot going on behind the scenes at Red Bull.

How does that work out?

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: Formula 2 driver with a great chance in the racing car

Shortly after arriving in Jeddah, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was no longer feeling well and complained of feeling unwell on Wednesday and Thursday.

His media appointments were canceled, but the Spaniard still completed the first two free practice sessions.

On Friday afternoon (March 8th) the news came that he had to undergo an appendix operation and would therefore be out of the third free practice session, qualifying and the race.

Ferrari is bringing 18-year-old Formula 2 driver Oliver Bearman into the cockpit as a replacement.

He is one of the youngest Formula 1 drivers ever and the youngest Ferrari driver for Formula 1 ever.

In qualifying he missed Q3 by just 36 thousandths and almost overtook two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

The race will show what the young driver can get out of himself and the Ferrari.
