Sweet baby news for tennis star Sabine Lisicki: The 34-year-old and her fiancé are expecting their first child together.

Lisicki then wants to return to the tennis court.

Berlin - It was around 11 years ago when Sabine Lisicki sent German tennis fans into ecstasy: At the prestigious tournament in Wimbledon, the young German became the first woman to reach a Grand Slam final since Steffi Graf in 1999.

On her triumphant journey, she even beat world number one Serena Williams and was nicknamed “Bum-Bum-Bine” because of her powerful game.

Now Lisicki's next big adventure is coming up, this time outside the tennis court.

The 34-year-old is expecting her first child with her fiancé in the fall.

Lisicki announced this on her Instagram channel on Friday, in keeping with International Women's Day.

“Life has many surprises in store for you, including this one.

My fiancé and I are looking forward to an exciting trip,” Lisicki wrote alongside a photo of two holding hands on the beach.

In another photo, “Surprise” and “Baby Coming” are written on a board decorated with flowers.

Numerous prominent personalities congratulate Lisicki under the post.

Sports presenter Laura Wontorra writes: “Congratulations, I’m so happy for you.” Winter sports ace Lindsey Vonn comments: “Congratulations!!!”.

The German Tennis Association also gets involved enthusiastically and writes: “Congratulations and all the best to you.”

After pregnancy: Lisicki is already planning her next tennis comeback

Despite some serious injuries in recent years, Lisicki plans to return to the tennis court after her pregnancy.

“That also means…that I have to make a comeback again,” she writes on Instagram.

Lisicki is also alluding to her serious knee injury in 2020, after which the Wimbledon finalist struggled to get back onto the court.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I love tennis and have a lot planned on the court.

With what still lies ahead of me, I am already looking forward to the moment of returning to the WTA tour as a mother,” Lisicki is quoted as saying in an Emotion Group press release about her comeback plans.

In the world rankings, Lisicki is now only ranked 368th (as of March 8th), but she showed in November last year that she has not forgotten how to play tennis.

At the Challenger tournament in Calgary, Canada, she celebrated her first title win since 2014 - something she will probably want to build on after her pregnancy.
