Six and a half years ago, in November 2017, Robinho was convicted in an Italian court of assaulting a young Albanian woman in a night club in 2013 and was sentenced to nine years in prison following the gang rape in which he participated.
The appeal he filed was rejected over two years ago and the sentence remained intact, but the Brazilian, now 40 years old, fled back to his homeland and escaped punishment because there is no extradition agreement between the countries.
The Italians firmly stand by their demand that the Brazilian serve an actual prison sentence and repeatedly appealed to the Brazilians to hand over the former star, who, among other things, played for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan and made 100 appearances for the Brazilian team with which he won the Copa America in 2007, but they were denied.
Today (Tuesday), eight days before Brazil delivers its final decision regarding the extradition of the former star, Brazilian President Lula da Silva addressed the issue for the first time and clarified his position.

According to Brazilian President Lula, he supports Robinho serving his sentence in one of the prisons in South America: "What he did is unforgivable and all the people who are convicted of sex crimes and rape should be in prison. A man who has, was rich and famous, who participates in gang rape and believes that he did not commit any Punishment but claims he acted that way because he was drunk...it's embarrassing. Robinho was convicted in Italy and he should serve his sentence here. I hope he pays for his actions because anyone who participates in gang rape should be in prison. He is luckier than 99 A percentage of Brazilians, because he made a lot of money and became a famous person, he should not have gotten involved in this way."
As mentioned, by March 20 the Brazilian court should decide whether to send Robinho to a nine-year prison term in the country.
