Emil Forsberg left RB Leipzig in the winter after nine years.

Max Eberl, who is now the sports director at FC Bayern, has a large share.

Munich – In the winter, RB Leipzig lost one of their longest-serving players.

Emil Forsberg moved to New York to another Red Bull club.

But this would most likely not have happened without Max Eberl.

The Swede revealed this in an interview with

Sport Bild

.

He doesn't skimp on criticism for the new Bayern sports director.

Forsberg disappointed with new Bayern Sports board member Eberl

Forsberg still saw his future in Leipzig: “It was my goal and that of my agent Hasan Cetinkaya when we talked to the club about an extension in the summer.

I really wanted to stay, but wanted a perspective beyond 2025.

But then things happened and the whole thing took a different direction.”

And Eberl was at the center of these “things”.

“Former sports director Max Eberl made me an offer that I didn’t value.

“I didn’t want to earn more and would have even accepted a slightly lower salary,” said Forsberg.

“But then I should give up 50 percent.

I felt disrespected!

I always gave everything for Leipzig.”

Forsberg is aiming to return to Leipzig after the end of his career

In the interview, Forsberg once again emphasized how much Leipzig means to him: “I love the fans in Leipzig and I also had a good relationship with coach Marco Rose.

But other clubs were interested in me and would have liked to get me - one was New York." This interest and the lack of appreciation on the part of Eberl made the ten-man team change their mind.

In the end, however, it was Eberl who had to leave the club before Forsberg.

Among other things, because he did not clearly commit to the club, the Saxons parted ways with Eberl in September 2023.

He has been the sports director at FC Bayern since the beginning of March.

And Forsberg would like to follow in Eberl's footsteps one day: “The fact is: I have to come back to Leipzig, in some form.

I think I still have a lot to give.” And that’s what he would most like to do as sports director, as he said.
