Clashes between BVB and Eindhoven fans overshadow the Champions League evening in Dortmund.
A PSV supporter is seriously injured.
Update from Thursday, March 14th, 7:56 a.m.:
A fan of the Dutch visiting team was seriously injured on Wednesday before the Champions League game between Borussia Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven.
The 35-year-old was hit in the head and then fell to the ground unconscious, the police said on Thursday night.
“Contrary to initial assessments, there was no danger to life,” it said.
Two people were involved in the altercation on the way to the stadium.
The exact course of events and the identity of the perpetrator remained unclear.
The injured man was taken to hospital.
There were also at least two people injured on the Old Market due to the use of pyrotechnics who had to be treated by rescue workers.
Before the Champions League round of 16: Eindhoven fan injured

In between, numerous Bengalos were set on fire.

At around 7:50 p.m., fans of both teams - the exact number is still unknown - must have clashed on the way to Dortmund's Signal-Iduna-Park and brutally beat each other.
Kicks were
also part of the attack, according to
Bild.de.
A PSV sympathizer on Hohe Straße was injured so badly that his life was in danger as of Wednesday evening (March 13th).
A police spokeswoman commented on the incident to the online portal mentioned:
“So far we assume that no weapon such as a knife was used.
The serious consequences were presumably caused by physical violence.
We are currently checking whether a homicide squad will be set up.”
Riots before BVB Champions League game: witnesses interviewed
Shortly after the criminal police appeared, the first witnesses who had observed the violent attacks by the two supporters were interviewed.
A person was allegedly seen fleeing in a car immediately after the serious attack.
Before the incident, around 3,000 PSV supporters marched through Dortmund city center towards the stadium, shouting.
Pyrotechnics were also ignited again and again.
According to
Bild,
several fans were arrested by hundreds of police before kick-off.
