Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner easily qualified for the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells on Thursday, easily beating Czech Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-3.
This is the 16th consecutive victory for the 3rd player in the world since the start of 2024 and he is undefeated since the Davis Cup final last year, won by Italy.
Besides the Australian Open, Sinner also won the Rotterdam tournament in February.
He was very solid on Thursday despite the windy conditions, taking the opponent's serve at the start of each of the two sets and saving the only break point that his opponent could have benefited from.
“I am very satisfied because the conditions on the court were different
,” underlined the Italian who had beaten the American Ben Shelton in the previous round (7-6, 6-1).
“In the morning it was very windy and it was difficult to control the situation.
He’s an incredible player and he has a lot of potential
,” he said of his 22-year-old opponent, 32nd player in the world.
He will face in the semi-final the winner of the meeting between the defending champion, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, and the German Alexander Zverev.
