At the start of the Olympic qualifying tournament, Germany won against Algeria.
Why the national handball coach criticized the fans afterwards:
The German national handball team started the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympics on Thursday (March 14th).
With the 41:29 win at the start against Algeria, the DHB team still has room for improvement – as MANNHEIM24 reports.
“Bratwurst” saying: National coach Gislason takes handball fans to task
National coach Alfred Gislason was also not entirely satisfied with the atmosphere in the ZAG Arena in Hanover.
When the Icelander was asked about the atmosphere after the game, he replied: “I think the atmosphere could be significantly better in the next games.” (Quote via t-online.de)
Alfred Gislason is hoping for even more support from the stands in the upcoming qualifying games on Saturday against Croatia and on Sunday against Austria.
“Everyone was standing by with their bratwurst until a quarter of an hour before the end,” says the 64-year-old with humor.

Light and shadow at the DHB opener against Algeria
The German handball players are not entirely satisfied with the game against Algeria.
At the press conference afterwards, Gislason was a little more relaxed than during the game.
“We did not underestimate the Algerians.
They have good shooters, so we had a lot of problems with that.
“We didn’t manage to get the flow of the game right,” emphasizes Gislason, who positively praises match winner Renars Uscins.
Whether the former THW Kiel coach remains in office beyond the tournament depends on the performance of the DHB team.
If the German handball players qualify for the Olympics, Alfred Gislason's contract will be extended until the home World Cup in 2027. Germany came fourth at the 2024 European Championships in their own country.
