In the last WHL game of the season, EC Eberfing managed to win by seven goals.
But that alone wasn't the reason why the players were so happy.
Eberfing
- The EC Eberfing ice hockey players had double reason to be happy in their last appearance of the season.
Not only did the team
celebrate a landslide victory over the Oberland Warriors with a score of 10:3 in the
Peißenberg ice stadium .
EC Eberfing wins title in WHL III
With this success, the EC also overtook Hoagat Buam in the table and won the championship title in Group III of the Werdenfelser Hockey League (WHL).
Recreational teams from the region play in this hobby group, which has a certain tradition.
There are three divisions with promotion and relegation regulations, with Group III being the lowest division in the WHL.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)
The triumph in the championship came as a surprise to Eberfinger itself.
Because they “did not start as a title contender,” it says in a statement.
During the points round, which began for the Eberfingers in November with a 9-1 win over the Oberland Warriors, “the self-confidence grew and you quickly realized that there was something to be gained in this round and that you could definitely be at the front,” said Team spokesman Josef Bader.
The Eberfinger won eight of ten games, plus one draw (4:4 against Loisacha Eisbrecha) and one defeat.
The Eberfinger followed up the 6-1 defeat against Hoagat Buam with a 3-1 win against their direct rivals in the second leg just a week later.
“In the end, the title was well deserved,” said Bader.
The best scorers in the team were Alex Sperl (15 goals/2 assists), Franz Fischer (11 goals/6 assists) and
Stefan Vogel
(4 goals/9 assists).
