It's a very bitter Europa League evening from SC Freiburg's point of view.
The dream of the first European quarter-final comes to a brutal end.
West Ham are superior to Breisgauer in all respects over 90 minutes and deservedly secure their place in the game.
After falling behind early on, Christian Streich's team never really found their way into the game and had to watch the hosts play themselves into a frenzy in the second half.

The left-back puts the ball on his strong left foot and hits the right corner.

Szallai finally crosses from the half field, but Gregoritsch doesn't get to the ball.

First goal for Freiburg in the second half.
Sallai crosses from the left to Gregoritsch at the penalty spot, but his header goes well over.

Christian Streich reacts to the deficit and brings on Michael Gregoritsch for Vincenzo Grifo.
Gregoristch had shot Freiburg to victory in the first leg.

Half-time conclusion:
It's a first half to forget from SC Freiburg's perspective.
After Paqueta's early deficit after a corner and 0-2 thanks to a long-range shot from Bowen, the lead from the first leg was lost after just 32 minutes.
The hosts are superior in all respects so far and go into the break with a deserved lead.
Above all, offensively, the Breisgauers have not yet found any means against the “Hammers” compact defense.
The good news: With just one goal, the SCF would be back in business.

Günter crosses from the left to Höler, who doesn't get to the ball.
The second ball lands at Doan, who misses the right time to finish from half-right and at least gets a corner.
However, that doesn't bring anything.

25 minutes over and so far it's not SC Freiburg's game.
West Ham have dominated in all respects so far and almost led by two goals.
Freiburg, on the other hand, rarely gets into the hosts' half and still doesn't have a good chance to score.
22nd minute:
Things get dangerous again on the hosts' right side.
Antonio passes to the back again, this time to Coufal, but he doesn't hit the ball properly and can't find a teammate.
Sidilla makes the situation more acute with a bad ball, but then Gulde is able to clear.

Almost 2-0 for West Ham!
Antonio beats Gulde strongly on the right and moves into the penalty area.
Kudus finds his pass into the backcourt and puts the ball past the goal.

It should be a historic evening for SC Freiburg and coach Christian Streich.
If the Breisgauers defend their victory from the first leg, they will be in a European quarter-final for the first time in the club's history.

It will be the fourth duel between West Ham and Freiburg this season.
In the group phase, the “Hammers” won both games, and the Freiburg team managed to get their revenge in the second leg.
This means the hosts are under pressure today.

Compared to the first leg, full-back Cresswell and Antonio have moved into the starting line-up.

Surprising: Michael Gregoritsch, who scored the winning goal in the first leg after coming on as a substitute and also scored against Bochum at the weekend, is initially on the bench.

SC Freiburg and coach Christian Streich have to play away at West Ham United in the second leg of the round of 16.
After the 1-0 win in the first leg, a draw would be enough for the Breisgau team to advance - and would mean something historic for the Streich team.

If SCF defends its lead from the first leg, it would be their first ever place in a European quarter-final.
“We have a really, really big game for us in London,” said SC coach Christian Streich after his team boosted their self-confidence with a 2-1 win against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
“With the feeling of success, I think that regeneration will go faster.
And then we’re really happy that we still have a chance in London,” added Streich.
The 58-year-old once again has high hopes for striker Michael Gregoritsch.
The Austrian ensured a good starting position with his goal in the first leg and was also successful against Bochum at the weekend.

Second leg of the Europa League round of 16: Freiburg wants to survive against West Ham
But the Freiburg team had to experience first-hand how difficult it is to survive in London's Olympic Stadium this season.
In the group stage, West Ham won 2-0 at home - a result that would be enough to progress in the second leg.
But from the Breisgau people’s point of view, this shouldn’t happen.
“The quality of West Ham is brutal,” said Streich about the seventh-place team in the Premier League, who only played 2-2 against second-to-last FC Burnley in their home stadium on Sunday.
“But our team has great character and players with a lot of competence,” said Streich optimistically.
