Conclusion:

It's a very bitter Europa League evening from SC Freiburg's point of view.

The dream of the first European quarter-final comes to a brutal end.

West Ham are superior to Breisgauer in all respects over 90 minutes and deservedly secure their place in the game.

After falling behind early on, Christian Streich's team never really found their way into the game and had to watch the hosts play themselves into a frenzy in the second half.

Final whistle!

The game is over.

West Ham defeated SC Freiburg 5-0 in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

90th minute:

There are two minutes of added time.

89th minute:

Almost 6-0.

Boufal is placed in the penalty area and runs at an acute angle towards Atobolu, who pulls his arm up well and prevents the next impact.

85th minute: TOOOOOR for West Ham

.

Things are getting more and more bitter for SC Freiburg.

Soucek drives the ball over the right side into Freiburg's half and plays it into the middle to Ward-Prowse.

He passes the ball briefly to Kudus, who finishes dryly into the bottom right corner from 16 meters.

SCF keeper Atubolu is not to be envied.

83rd minute:

Freiburg tries again on the right side, but Sallai's ball finds no taker in the middle.

Nothing is working offensively for the Breisgauer team today.

80th minute:

The hosts continue to conjure up: Freiburg's defense falls apart

77th minute: TOOOOOR for West Ham

.

The 4-0, the final decision and that through an absolute dream goal.

Kudus grabs the ball in his own half and runs off.

He leaves three opponents standing in front of the Freiburg penalty area and then finishes dryly into the right corner.

Very bitter for the SCF!

76th minute:

There are no really dangerous chances to score on Freiburg's side.

Röhl shoots from the right corner of the penalty area and doesn't hit the ball correctly.

Again Fabianski has no problems intercepting the ball easily.

74th minute:

Alvarez comes too late in the duel and is shown a yellow card.

73rd minute:

Eggestein prevents the score from being 0-4!

After a cross from the right side, the midfielder got the ball ahead of Kudus, who was ready to take a shot.

71st minute:

Around 20 minutes left to play.

Freiburg needs two goals to save themselves into extra time.

The strike team is currently doing the game, but is hardly dangerous in front of the goal.

The hosts' defense is too close.

70th minute:

Christian Streich brings two new players into the game with Röhl and Philipp in order to perhaps achieve the turnaround.

67th minute:

Cresswell stops Sidilla on the right with a foul and sees the first yellow card of the game.

Good free kick position for Freiburg.

But the high ball finds no taker in the middle.

65th minute:

Muslija tests Fabianski from almost 25 meters.

The shot from half right lands in the arms of the keeper.

62nd minute:

Double substitution at Freiburg: Kübler comes on for Gulde, Muslija comes on for Höfler.

At West Ham, Ward-Prowse comes in for goalscorer Paqueta.

60th minute:

Freiburg has been trying more and more crosses since Gregoritsch was substituted.

This time it's Doan from the right who hits the ball high into the box, but the cross goes too far and ends up in Fabianski's arms.

57th minute:

West Ham continues to play happily forward.

Bowen lays it out to Coufal on the right side.

His cross finds Alvarez in the middle, who heads just past the left post.

55th minute

: From Freiburg's point of view, the deficit is absolutely fine.

We now need two goals to perhaps force extra time here.

West Ham against Freiburg in the live ticker: Next goal conceded – SCF before the end

52nd minute: GOOOOOOOOR for West Ham

.

Is that the preliminary decision?

Bowen passes inside on the right side of the penalty area, where Eggestein unintentionally clears into the feet of Cresswell on the left corner of the box.

The left-back puts the ball on his strong left foot and hits the right corner.

50th minute:

Freiburg can happily push the ball back and forth around the hosts' penalty area.

Szallai finally crosses from the half field, but Gregoritsch doesn't get to the ball.

48th minute:

First goal for Freiburg in the second half.

Sallai crosses from the left to Gregoritsch at the penalty spot, but his header goes well over.

46th minute:

Christian Streich reacts to the deficit and brings on Michael Gregoritsch for Vincenzo Grifo.

Gregoristch had shot Freiburg to victory in the first leg.

The 2nd half begins!

Half-time conclusion:

It's a first half to forget from SC Freiburg's perspective.

After Paqueta's early deficit after a corner and 0-2 thanks to a long-range shot from Bowen, the lead from the first leg was lost after just 32 minutes.

The hosts are superior in all respects so far and go into the break with a deserved lead.

Above all, offensively, the Breisgauers have not yet found any means against the “Hammers” compact defense.

The good news: With just one goal, the SCF would be back in business.

The same continues in London.

Half time!

45th minute:

There is one minute of added time.

44th minute

: Freiburg becomes a little bolder and now stands higher themselves.

In the forward game, however, the team's game continues to be plagued by errors.

40th minute:

Grifo moves from the left into the hosts' penalty area, leaves an opponent standing and shoots from a tight angle.

Fabianski can pick up the ball again without any major problems.

39th minute:

Freiburg's first shot on goal!

Eggestein tests Fabianski from around 16 meters.

However, no problem for the hosts' Polish goalkeeper

36th minute:

West Ham are now really gaining steam and are pushing for a preliminary decision before the break.

Soucek tries the corner after a corner, but shoots wide to the right.

West Ham against Freiburg in the live ticker: prank eleven with two goals behind

32nd minute: TOOOOOR for West Ham.

Is that bitter for SC Freiburg.

A throw-in from the right is blocked by Antonio in the middle with robust physical effort for Bowen.

The Englishman takes the ball around 25 meters in front of the goal and goes into a duel with Günter.

The defender actually already has the ball, but then slips away and allows Bowen to finish.

The powerful shot hits the bottom right.

30th minute:

West Ham now lets Freiburg get a little deeper into their own half and are no longer as aggressive in the duels as they were in the first few minutes.

However, a dense bulwark has formed around the penalty area that Freiburg has not yet been able to break through.

27th minute

: Now there is at least some danger in the “Hammers” penalty area.

Günter crosses from the left to Höler, who doesn't get to the ball.

The second ball lands at Doan, who misses the right time to finish from half-right and at least gets a corner.

However, that doesn't bring anything.

25th minute:

25 minutes over and so far it's not SC Freiburg's game.

West Ham have dominated in all respects so far and almost led by two goals.

Freiburg, on the other hand, rarely gets into the hosts' half and still doesn't have a good chance to score.

22nd minute:

Things get dangerous again on the hosts' right side.

Antonio passes to the back again, this time to Coufal, but he doesn't hit the ball properly and can't find a teammate.

Sidilla makes the situation more acute with a bad ball, but then Gulde is able to clear.

19th minute:

Almost 2-0 for West Ham!

Antonio beats Gulde strongly on the right and moves into the penalty area.

Kudus finds his pass into the backcourt and puts the ball past the goal.

Lucky for Freiburg.

17th minute:

Free kick from the right half of the field for Freiburg, but Grifo hits the ball too far out of the goal.

16th minute:

Bowen moves into the penalty area on the right side and passes the ball sharply into the middle.

Atubolu intercepts the ball.

13th minute:

Freiburg have to shake themselves up briefly after falling behind.

West Ham, on the other hand, takes control of the game.

The early lead clearly gave us confidence.

10th minute:

And almost the direct answer from Freiburg!

Sallai is positioned on the half-right, but aims just wide to the left.

West Ham against Freiburg now in the live ticker: “Hammers” with a dream start

9th minute: GOOOOOOR for West Ham.

There is the early lead for the hosts.

Cresswell takes a corner from the left to the near post, where Soucek ideally extends the ball to the second post.

All Paqueta has to do is push the ball over the line.

Bitter from the Freiburgers’ point of view.

7th minute:

West Ham is extremely high and wants to disrupt Freiburg's build-up game extremely early and force them to play long balls.

The strike team has problems with this in the first few minutes and is not yet able to build up the game in an orderly manner.

5th minute:

The first half chance for West Ham.

A long throw-in from the right falls dangerously towards Atubolu's goal.

The goalkeeper plays it safe and clears for a corner, but it doesn't come in.

3rd minute:

Freiburg gets a hold of the hosts' penalty area, but can't finish.

1st minute:

Soucek's first foul in midfield on Grifo.

Kick-off!

In the group phase, the “Hammers” won both games, and the Freiburg team managed to get their revenge in the second leg.

West Ham's line-up is now also known.

Compared to the first leg, full-back Cresswell and Antonio have moved into the starting line-up.

Christian Streich sends exactly the same starting eleven onto the pitch as in the first leg.

Surprising: Michael Gregoritsch, who scored the winning goal in the first leg after coming on as a substitute and also scored against Bochum at the weekend, is initially on the bench.

First report from March 14th, 3:18 p.m.:

London – It's about getting into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League!

SC Freiburg and coach Christian Streich have to play away at West Ham United in the second leg of the round of 16.

After the 1-0 win in the first leg, a draw would be enough for the Breisgau team to advance - and would mean something historic for the Streich team.

West Ham against Freiburg in the live ticker today: Streich-Elf is fighting for the Europa League quarter-finals

If SCF defends its lead from the first leg, it would be their first ever place in a European quarter-final.

“We have a really, really big game for us in London,” said SC coach Christian Streich after his team boosted their self-confidence with a 2-1 win against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

“With the feeling of success, I think that regeneration will go faster.

And then we’re really happy that we still have a chance in London,” added Streich.

The 58-year-old once again has high hopes for striker Michael Gregoritsch.

The Austrian ensured a good starting position with his goal in the first leg and was also successful against Bochum at the weekend.

Second leg of the Europa League round of 16: Freiburg wants to survive against West Ham

But the Freiburg team had to experience first-hand how difficult it is to survive in London's Olympic Stadium this season.

In the group stage, West Ham won 2-0 at home - a result that would be enough to progress in the second leg.

But from the Breisgau people’s point of view, this shouldn’t happen.

“The quality of West Ham is brutal,” said Streich about the seventh-place team in the Premier League, who only played 2-2 against second-to-last FC Burnley in their home stadium on Sunday.

“But our team has great character and players with a lot of competence,” said Streich optimistically.
