Highlights: Exciting races in the district cup and a piste team that had a lot to do. TSV Weilheim provided the largest contingent with 33 girls and boys. SC Murnau, TSV Oberammergau and SC Lauterbach each achieved eight podium finishes. For several years now, clubs from the border regions of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen districts have been taking part in the local racing series.

At the district cup race on the local mountain there were temperatures that kept the piste crew on their toes.

Nevertheless, there was a good race with an exciting course.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

– How the winters go is becoming increasingly unpredictable.

This particularly affects those who use the snow as a means of sporting activity.

There was an absolute contrast in the district cup this year.

The conditions were perfect at the start of the racing series.

SC Murnau and SC Huglfing were delighted

with the “imperial weather” as hosts at the giant slalom in Ehrwald

.

But afterwards the clubs and athletes had a bitter pill to swallow: The second event, SC Peiting and SC Schongau were responsible for the organization, had to be canceled completely due to a lack of snow.

Third district cup race on the local mountain in Garmisch

The third race took place again recently, last weekend.

The group of helpers from TSV Weilheim had a lot to do on the local mountain in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to make a competition possible.

“Maintaining the slopes in particular in the warm temperatures was a challenge,” said Eckart Walchshöfer, head of the TSV ski department, in a statement.

(The local newspapers in the Weilheim-Schongau district are represented on Instagram under “merkur_wm_sog”.)

In the end, the organizers were pleased with what they considered a successful giant slalom competition with 218 participants in eleven age groups.

TSV Weilheim provided the largest contingent with 33 girls and boys.

This was followed by SC Lauterbach (30) and TSV Bernbeuren (20).

When it came to podium places, the people from Weilheim were ahead with ten places in the top three.

TSV Weilheim was happy about 218 participants

SC Murnau, TSV Oberammergau and SC Lauterbach each achieved eight podium finishes.

As is well known, Murnau and Oberammergau are not in the Weilheim-Schongau district, but for several years now, clubs from the border regions of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen districts have also been taking part in the

local racing series

.

There was something going on on the slopes on the local mountain: a total of 218 young ski racers from 19 clubs took part in the giant slalom organized by TSV Weilheim.

It was noticeable that in several classes there were gaps in the hundredths of a second in the fight for the top places.

For the girls in the “Children I” class (born 2016 and younger), there were just nine hundredths of a second between winner Viola Schelle (TSV Weilheim) and Anna Ramsayer (BSC Oberhausen) – with a driving time of over 51 seconds.

Very close gaps in several classes

In the boys category “Kinder III” (born 2014), three drivers were within a tenth of a second: winner Simon Geisenhof (TSV Bernbeuren) was five hundredths faster than Tobias Niggl (SC Lauterbach), who in turn was four hundredths faster than Milan Waaijer (TSV Oberammergau).

In the “Youth II” (born 2003 to 2005) there was only 0.12 seconds between the first place, Sina Eckert (TSV Bernbeuren), and the second, Antonia Eirenschmalz (SC Lauterbach).

Eckert, who had already won at the start in Ehrwald, was the fastest driver of the day with a time of 38.13 seconds.

Jonas Krug (36.67) from TSV Weilheim set the top time among the male starters.

He also won in the “Youth I” class, although the duel for the day’s victory was extremely exciting: Markus Eirenschmalz (SC Lauterbach) was only two hundredths of a second slower.

Third place went to Paul Irrek (TSV Weilheim), who was 0.45 seconds behind the winner.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

In some classes there were very large time differences between the winner and the pursuers.

Finn Bartl was the furthest away from his competitors.

The ski racer from SC Huglfing won the “Kinder IV” boys group (born 2013) with a lead of 3.30 seconds.

The final district cup race is on the program on Sunday, March 17th.

TSV Weilheim is once again acting as host.

A giant slalom will be raced on the world-famous Kandahar course in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

“It’s a great final experience for all athletes,” the division said.

The race starts at 10 a.m.
