Quarter-finalist in the Europa League, Olympique de Marseille moved up the UEFA rankings and is now ahead of Lyon, who are paying for their absence

After the round of 16 of the various European Cups, UEFA updated its club rankings.

At the French level, it is no surprise that PSG occupies the best place.

The Parisians are 4th behind Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Far behind, the second French representative is Lille (44th).

Then, we witness a small revolution which should make all OM supporters roar with pleasure.

Thanks to its qualification for the quarter-finals of the Europa League obtained against Villarreal, the Marseille club, which will aim for a place in the last four against Benfica, now occupies 45th place.

OM thus passes Lyon (46th) with the same number of points, followed by Rennes (47th).

A first since 1987.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, decisive passer, and Jonathan Clauss, scorer, let their joy burst after OM qualified for the quarter-finals.

The Lyonnais have been paying for their lack of qualification for the European Cup for two years.

And they should also lose, in a few months, the benefit of the points scored thanks to their Champions League semi-final in 2019-2020.

The UEFA ranking is in fact calculated on the basis of the last five years.

For next season, European qualification for OM and OL is still far from being achieved.

Marseille is currently 7th in L1, three points from 4th place which will offer a play-off for the Champions League.

For Lyon, 10th, 8 points behind OM, qualification via the championship seems complicated.

But he still has the Coupe de France where he will play a semi-final on April 2 against Valenciennes, bottom of L2.
