The TTC Birkland table tennis women scored a point on the most recent day of double play - and then wondered how to assess the situation.

Birkland

– Even several days after the games, Lena Berchtold didn't know exactly how to evaluate the results.

From a purely statistical perspective, the matter was very clear: the table tennis women had first lost at TSV Herbertshofen (2:8) on their double match day in the top league and then achieved a draw at TTC Langweid II (5:5).

TTC Birkland gets a point in the double game day

Whether it was “unfortunately just one point or fortunately one point,” she “didn’t really know,” said Berchtold – and then gave an assessment: “Probably the latter.” So that meant: The Birklanders were happy to get a point to have acquired.

Relegation is not yet guaranteed.

Although they are ahead of their two opponents in the table,

TTC Birkland

did not travel to Augsburg as favorites.

This was due to the personnel situation.

Both top players were unable to compete.

Number one, Karin Stumpfecker, will even be missing from the team until the end of the season.

A torn muscle fiber that Stumpfecker suffered in the game against league leaders FC Bayern (we reported) turned out to be serious.

Number two, Patricia Weishäupl, had to miss the double match day due to a flu-like infection.

As in the first leg (4:6), TSV Herbertshofen proved to be stronger.

This time the Birkland women only managed two victories.

“But there were some very close games, which unfortunately all went in favor of our opponents,” reported Berchtold.

Three singles lasted five sets, with the TTC player losing out in each case.

It caught Berchtold (playing on one), Monika Dietrich (on two) and Beate Greib-Trapp (on four).

Berchtold and Greib-Trapp were at least able to win a singles match with 3-1 sets each.

Lisa Hetterich lost 3-0 twice, mostly narrowly losing the individual sets.

Rear pair cross secures a draw at Langweid II

In the second duel, against Langweid II, things went much better.

Two victories in the rear pair cross secured Birkland the point.

Hetterich won her game in five sets (7:11, 11:6, 8:11, 11:6, 11:9), Greib-Trapp retained 3:1 (6:11, 11:5, 15:13, 11:9) the upper hand.

They showed “a unified team performance,” said Berchtold.

In the opening doubles, the Dietrich/Greib-Trapp pairing scored one point with a 3-1 win.

Berchtold (3:0) and Greib-Trapp (3:0) were successful in the first individual series.

  • Bitter defeats and a team without losing a sentence

On Saturday, March 16th, TTC Birkland (11:15/5th place) will play its last home game of the season.

The opponent is the bottom of the table, Konradsreuth (4:22).

A win would be important for the TTC in order to secure relegation early.
