Raw, huh?

The Raw Air Tour 2024 quickly explained

In addition to the Four Hills Tournament, the Raw Air Tour is the second series in the ski jumping calendar.

The competition is considered the toughest ski jumping series in the world.

In total, the athletes have to complete 16 jumps in just ten days, with only a two-day break during the competition.

Raw Air has been firmly anchored in the World Cup since 2016/2017.

After four competitions, only the 50 best are allowed to qualify for the final ski flying in Vikersund.

Of these, 40 jumpers will still be there on Saturday; in the final decision on Sunday, the field of participants will be reduced to the best 30 protagonists from the previous day.

In the 2nd round only the top 20 will take part, the winner will then be determined from among the top ten in the 3rd and final round.

The German squad on the Raw Air Tour 2024

The German team is at the start with eight jumpers: Karl Geiger (SC Oberstdorf), Stephan Leyhe (SC Willingen), Pius Paschke (SC Kiefersfelden), Philipp Raimund (SC Oberstdorf), Constantin Schmid (WSV Oberaudorf), Andreas Wellinger (SC Ruhpolding ).

The latter, as coach Stefan Horngacher decided, leads the DSV ensemble.

“With the Raw Air we now have another tour ahead of us that is extremely cool,” said Wellinger: “I am motivated and looking forward to the competitions!”

The fact that Wellinger is the face of the German team is not surprising given his strong season.

With 1294 points, he is in third place in the World Cup behind Ryoyu Kobayashi (1382 points) and Stefan Kraft (1578).

Paschke, ninth in the world rankings, and Geiger (11th) probably have at least a chance of achieving decent results in every competition.

Who are the favorites for the Raw Air Tour 2024?

Yes, Andreas Wellinger can certainly be mentioned here.

But the German hopeful needs to be in absolute top form in order to have a say in the overall victory.

By the way, the reigning winner, the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, didn't get through the season so well and is currently only in 23rd place. It can be expected that dominator Stefan Kraft will ultimately win the 2024 Raw Air Tour.
