The match-up between Nikola Jokic and Victor Wombaniama promised a lot - but it turned out pretty quickly to be powerless.
Wombi still managed to block Jokic and score over him at the start of the game, but the Nuggets' 0:12 run opened up a 19-point lead for them already in the first quarter, and also a comeback by the Spurs, who offset the difference to only 4 in the third quarter, responded with a run that opened up a big lead again and in fact Case closed.
Denver, which complained that the game in Austin, Texas (in San Antonio's attempt to appeal to new audiences) gave off a "free-season vibe," got the job done in the end and celebrated its fifth straight win and 11 of 12 since returning from the All-Star break as it climbs back to the top the west
Jokic finished with 31 points, Jamal Murray added 15 and 10 assists.
Wombanayama finished with 17 for San Antonio, which suffered its third straight loss.
New Orleans (26:40) - LA Clippers (24:42) 104:112
Something good happens to the Pelicans every time they face the Clippers.
Tonight they recorded an 11th victory in the last 13 meetings between the teams, completed 1:3 against them this season and got closer to them in the fight for the fourth place in the West, which has reopened.
Zion Williamson, who is recording his best season in his career, provided a performance with 34 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, and was above all.
The Clippers were led by Paul George (26 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds) and Kawhi Leonard (23 and 7 rebounds), but the absence of the injured James Harden was felt, and the back line contributed almost nothing.

The Suns are knocking on the doors of sixth place in the West with a fourth win in their last six games.
Six players scored in double figures, led by Devin Booker with 21 points and 11 assists and Grayson Allen and Bradley Beal adding 15 each.
The guest built a big lead in the first three quarters and repelled a run by the Hornets in the last quarter en route to victory.
Vasilia Micic continued his good season at Charlotte and led her with 21 points, Miles Bridges contributed 17 and 10 rebounds.
Detroit (54:12) - Miami (30:36) 108:95
There is nothing like a meeting with the Pistons to get back on track, and Miami also enjoyed it and returned to win after four consecutive losses.
Bam Adebayo dominated the paint and finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds, Caleb Martin and Terry Rozier each added 18 and the Heat cruised to a victory that ended Detroit's fantasy of a third straight win in nearly three years.
Simona Pontecchio scored 24 for the loss, but it wasn't enough on a night when Cade Cunningham, who was carrying an injury, settled for just 11 points.
Easy win for the Suns.

The Magic with their sixth win in their last seven games, and the Raptors are handed their sixth straight loss.
Franz Wagner scored 19, Paolo Bunkero scored 11 of his 17 (along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists) in the third quarter in which the Magic ran away, and Jaylen Suggs produced 16. The bruised and missing Toronto, which played without Scotty Barnes, Jacob Foltel, Chris Bouche and RJ Barrett, led by Gary Trent Jr. with a season high 31 points.
Utah (37:29) - Atlanta (37:29) 122:124
Kevin Snyder returned to Utah for the first time as an opposing coach, but his team suffered a third straight loss while the Jazz snapped just such a streak.
Keunta George starred with 25 points, Collin Sexton contributed 21 and it was enough even against a late comeback by the Hawks, which was halted after Dejonta Murray (33 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds) missed twice in the last minute and Whit Krejci The Czech missed a three-pointer in the last seconds.
