Summary: Manchester City - Newcastle 0:2 (Cup quarter-finals)/Sport1
A quarter-final in England kicked off earlier today (Saturday) with the extraordinary encounter between Wolves and Coventry of the Championship who advanced to the semi-finals with goals in the 90+7 and 100 minutes, but in the late game there was no longer a surprise when the current cup holder and the treble, Manchester City beat Newcastle 0:2 and secured their place at Wembley in the semi-finals.
Manchester City started the week with a game of the season at Anfield against Liverpool and it was a game that they started with a storm and took a justified and fairly quick lead from a goal by John Stones, but a mistake by Nathan Ake led to a penalty that Alexis McAllister took advantage of to equalize, the two separated by 1: 1 and the Citizens dropped to third place in the table - although they are only one point away from the top.
Against Newcastle they already stumbled and flew out of the league cup in September and in the league they only beat them in extra time with a dramatic goal by Oscar Bob, and this is probably the reason why the Citizens started the game with a storm today, took a double lead in the first half and kept the 0:2 until the end.
The Citizens celebrate with Bernardo Silva/Reuters
The injured Kevin de Brauna was not included in the squad and Erling Holland did not score again and was replaced in the 86th minute when he had another game in which he did not find the back of the net, but as mentioned above in their absence and in a game in which Phil Foden did not score or assist, it was Bernardo Silva who celebrated a valuable and important double.
In the 13th minute, he kicked a ball that hit one of the defense players, changed direction and defeated Martin Dubrebka and he celebrated his second after only 18 minutes.
Newcastle who are on a downward trend lose another title, City's dream of keeping the title is definitely alive and well.
