Benedikt Doll has hung up his skis – and wants to turn away from the sport of biathlon.
He wants to pursue a career in another area.
Munich – Benedikt Doll will hang up his skis after the current season and end his career.
The strong performance at the World Cup in Soldier Hollow didn't change that.
The former world champion rules out retiring.
“No, there’s no more backing out,” the 33-year-old told ARD after his last relay race of his career.
Biathlon star Doll doesn't want to work as a trainer
But what does the future look like for the veteran?
A job in the biathlon circus doesn't appeal to Doll, as he admitted in a media round: “I won't switch professionally into coaching.
I'm not drawn to that, I don't feel like going there.
I can imagine doing one or two things on a voluntary basis, maybe leading children’s training courses, but I won’t do anything full-time.”
Working as a TV expert at biathlon world cups is also not an option because that would require him to travel all winter long.
“I don’t want to be on the road all the time again,” says Doll.

The 33-year-old sees his future outside of biathlon.
After his career ends, he wants to start studying sustainable energy systems in Offenburg.
It is important to him to improve his “so far not so good CO2 footprint as an athlete.
I want to do something with Impact.
I want to do something in the area of sustainability and energy production.
This is a dream and wish of mine.”
Ex-biathlon world champion Doll is looking forward to life after his career
Before the last World Cup of his career, Benedikt Doll does not exude any melancholy.
“I don't mourn the sport and ask myself why I don't do it longer.
I could carry on if my motivation was still there.” Rather, the former world champion is looking forward to life after his active time as a biathlete.

Doll made her World Cup debut in 2012 at the age of 21 and then shaped an era in German biathlon together with greats like Arnd Peiffer, Erik Lesser and Simon Schempp.
In addition to the 2017 World Championship title in the sprint, the highlights of his career were the Olympic bronze medals in Pyeongchang 2018 in the pursuit and relay.
In total he won eight medals at major events.
