The 33-year-old Italian, retired since 2022 after suffering a heart attack, foiled a theft at the training hotel, just before Milan-San Remo.

The winner of Paris-Roubaix 2021 also described the scene in detail: “We were in the hotel lobby and we heard someone screaming.
He was our bus driver, in his underwear, and he had seen people trying to steal the bikes.
We went out and there were around ten young people.”
This group of bandits therefore fled, leaving the bicycles where they were.
Sonny Colbrelli then decided to intervene and chased the thieves.
“At one point, a car almost hit me, but I narrowly avoided it.
We then started running after them and I followed them into the woods.
They fled in the car, but I also took the car and chased them at full speed, but we did not catch up with them.
In the end, the staff members slept with three or four bikes in their room.
