It would be one of the biggest comebacks in cross-country skiing history: Will Therese Johaug attack again in time for the home World Championships in Norway?
It currently looks like this.
Oslo – Four times cross-country skiing gold at the Olympics.
14 titles at cross-country skiing world championships.
And in between, another gold at the national athletics championships in the 10,000 meter run: Therese Johaug is a medal collector par excellence, one of the most successful winter sports athletes of all time.
She actually ended her career in spring 2022 - but now a sensational comeback is on the horizon.
Winter sports legend Johaug's sensational comeback is becoming more and more concrete
The Norwegian told TV station
NRK
that she would be competing at the Norwegian Championships in Lillehammer next Saturday (March 23rd).
“This is a step on the way to seeing what the constitution is like at the moment,” the broadcaster quoted Johaug as saying.
But why the big comeback?
In 2025, the Nordic World Ski Championships will take place in Trondheim, Johaug's Norwegian homeland.
That's why there has been speculation for some time now as to whether the former all-winner might decide to back out of retirement again.
And that's exactly what it seems to be looking like now.

Therese Johaug about to make a cross-country skiing comeback: First race already successful
Johaug became a mother for the first time on May 17, 2023.
Her daughter was born on Norway's national day.
Ten months later, the 35-year-old is now attacking again.
She recently took part in the Engadin women's run in Switzerland - and promptly won it ahead of her old rival Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli.
She posted a picture of the race on her Instagram account and wrote, among other things: “What a fantastic weekend in Switzerland.
Another nerve-wracking experience with a race number on your chest.”

Therese Johaug about to make a comeback?
Home World Cup in Norway as a big goal
Her triumph is the first indication that she will again play a leading role at the upcoming national championships - and a year later also at the home World Cup.
There is currently a similar scenario in biathlon, but the signs are a little different.
What's next for Dorothea Wierer?
There is still no decision as to whether she will end her career or compete at the 2026 Olympic Games in her Italian hometown of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
