At the race in Melbourne, Verstappen retired after lap 5.

In the end, Hülkenberg benefited from an accident on the last lap.

What's next for Red Bull?

Melbourne - It could have been so nice for Red Bull: Another victory in Formula 1 was in prospect after Max Verstappen's pole position.

But then everything turned out differently.

Formula 1 in Melbourne: Verstappen's brake catches fire

After five laps, Verstappen came into the pits because his brakes were smoking.

It even caught fire in the pit entrance and the Dutchman had to park his car.

Shortly afterwards, Red Bull didn't know exactly what the problem was: "What we could see in the data so far is that something got stuck at the back and then I couldn't drive the car properly," said Verstappen.

“Immediately after takeoff, I could see that the right rear brake wasn’t working properly.”

Helmut Marko was a little more specific after the race: “We don’t yet know what exactly happened.

But on the lap when Sainz overtook, the brake no longer released.

Then it got completely stuck and caught fire.

The exact cause has yet to be found out.” Nevertheless, he is certain that “with Max in the race it would have turned out completely differently!”

There's already smoke here and the brakes even caught fire in the pit lane.

Australian Grand Prix: Hülkenberg brings home points

Thanks to great teamwork, Hülkenberg was able to score a point for Haas in Jeddah.

In Melbourne, both Haas even made it into the points.

“The speed was quite good compared to the other midfield teams.

“But that’s just a snapshot,” says Hülkenberg.

“The racing circumstances played into our hands,” he admits.

There were three points in total for Magnussen and Hülkenberg.

These racing circumstances were caused by George Russell's accident on the last lap.

At the entrance to the curve he lost his car and ended up sideways on the track. “I went off the track and that's my fault,” said Russell, summing up his accident.

Nevertheless, it could be that Alonso, who was driving in front of him, was not entirely innocent: “It is clear that he braked 100 meters before the corner and then went back on the accelerator and took the corner normally,” said Russell , who clarified: “I don’t know if he had a problem or not.” The case has now ended up with the stewards.

Formula 1 in Melbourne: What's next for Red Bull?

Ferrari achieved a one-two victory for the first time in two years.

“It feels good for the team!

1st and 2nd place, that hasn't happened since 2022.

I’m happy that we succeeded, that we were able to do that,” said Charles Leclerc.

"Carlos deserves this victory, I'm very happy for him and the team, we couldn't have done it better." After all, Leclerc and Verstappen are now only separated by four points in the Drivers' World Championship.

In the end, no Red Bull ended up on the podium.

Sergio Perez couldn't get close to the Ferraris and McLarens.

“He was a full two seconds slower than the leaders.

“Something went wrong not only in terms of driving, but also in the set-up,” explained Helmut Marko after the race.

Now they have at least two weeks to find out what didn't work with the Red Bulls in Australia.

The next race starts on April 7th in Japan.
