Formula 1: Red Bull can be vulnerable and that changes everything

Highlights: Red Bull's Max Verstappen was forced to retire in the third round of the Australian Grand Prix. The Dutchman had been on pole for the 35th time in his career. But he was unable to overtake Carlos Sainz, who won the race for Ferrari. It is the first time in two years that Red Bull have been beaten by a team other than Red Bull in the opening two rounds of the season. The result means Red Bull are not unbeatable for the rest of the campaign.

We do not yet know if this Australian episode of the 2024 Formula 1 season will be a landmark, but it clearly marks a first turning point.

Until then invincible, the Dutch glutton experienced a black Sunday and left victory to Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) ahead of Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Lando Norris (McLaren).

A first hitch which occurred in the third round for Red Bull, while the competition had waited until the 15th meeting in 2023 to rub their hands.

Yet on pole for the 35th time in his career, Max Verstappen was the huge favorite at Albert Park, but this time, the Batavian did not feel comfortable from the start.

Accustomed to the first hot lap in order to get his pursuer out of the DRS zone (more than a second), the three-time world champion was unable to overtake Carlos Sainz.
