Diego Maradona's cross-border influence in the world of football earned him admiration from his opponents as well.
This, for example, happened at Real Madrid, who were close to signing him on more than one occasion.
In recent days, a story has been revealed about the day Maradona "played" at the luxury club from the capital of Spain.
Ahead of the meeting with the Argentina national team, the coach of the El Salvador national team David Doniga who played in the youth team of Real Madrid, shared his memory of the phenomenon from 1995.
That same year, Maradona served as Racing Club coach and visited Real's training facility.
"We were waiting in the locker room for training to start, and suddenly we were informed 'Maradona just arrived here!'" Doniga repeated, when he told how the whole team ran to the field to meet Maradona, who was playing with the youngsters and kicking penalties for them.
"I was lucky enough to see him at the Bernabeu. I admire him, because my first memories are related to the 1986 World Cup that was so magical for him and for Argentina," the El Salvador coach continued.
He played at all in Barcelona, but he was also admired in Real Madrid.

During his life, Maradona made more visits to Real Madrid's facilities, including a meeting in 2005 with President Florentino Perez, who said of the genius that "the only stain on his career is that he didn't play for Real Madrid."
So at least he juggled a few minutes on her training ground.
