Will Stefan Horngacher remain the national coach of the German ski jumpers beyond the season?
The 54-year-old's most recent statements show a clear trend.
Planica - There is still no clarity on the coaching question in German ski jumping: National coach Stefan Horngacher's contract ends after this winter - the German Ski Association (DSV) has not yet decided whether he will stay or go.
Now Horngacher's statements point in a clear direction.
Ski jumping national coach Horngacher comments on his future
After the last competition of the season in Planica, the 54-year-old confirmed his desire to continue as national coach.
“We had really good conversations.
The team will stay together like this.
We have good ideas and want to continue working together with full motivation,” said the Austrian on
ZDF
.
Horngacher has been the head coach of the German jumpers since 2019.
After the DSV Eagles started the season well and won two World Championship medals in ski flying as well as second place in the Four Hills Tournament for Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger, their performance declined in the last third of the season.
“We know very well that we have a lot to do.
We are highly motivated,” says Horngacher combatively.

Contract ends: Will Horngach remain the national coach of the DSV Adler?
The association ultimately has to decide whether he can continue as national coach - but a decision is not expected in the near future.
The DSV does not want to make a hasty decision and “do not allow itself to be pushed” on the national coach question, emphasized sports director Horst Hüttel recently.
Nevertheless, the statements from Hüttel and Horngacher confirm that there are discussions between the coach and the association.
Although Hüttel explained that it was “not always just about contract details,” the DSV’s desire to extend Horngacher’s contract also seems clear: “At the moment we have no other plan for the coaching position,” explained the sports director.

Top jumper Wellinger hopes Horngacher will stay
Horngacher is also very popular with the jumpers themselves.
Top jumper Wellinger would like to see the Austrian on the hill next winter.
“We pulled ourselves together really well.
The entire coaching team is part of it.
I guess we will continue in this constellation,” explained the 28-year-old after the last competition of the winter in Slovenia.
Although none of the DSV Adler were able to achieve a top placement in the last competitions before the end of the season, Wellinger still draws a positive conclusion.
“It was very, very successful.
“I can call myself third in the overall World Cup, that’s a huge achievement,” said the Bavarian.
Now he wants to “set new goals so that we can go a little further forward” - but it is still unclear which coach he will use to achieve these goals.
