FC Bayern made a real stroke of luck with the signing of Jamal Musiala.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now revealed that this happened more or less by chance.
Munich – Many personnel details will be put to the test at FC Bayern next summer after a possibly titleless season.
However, one who is definitely not one of them is Jamal Musiala.
Despite his young age of 21, the youngster is the undisputed regular player for the record champions and is considered the face of the future in Munich's offensive.
Musiala has been under contract at Säbener Straße for almost five years and moved to Bayern from Chelsea FC's youth academy in 2019.
As long-time CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge now reports, the signing of Musiala was not initially planned - because Bayern were actually interested in another Chelsea star.

FC Bayern signed Musiala – because the Hudson-Odoi transfer failed
We're talking about winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Also in 2019, the Bayern bosses, especially former sports director Hasan Salihamidžić, really wanted to convince the Englishman to move to the record champions.
To the displeasure of Chelsea FC, Salihamidžić publicly expressed interest in Hudson-Odoi - despite already advanced discussions, the transfer ultimately failed.
In retrospect, the failed transfer turns out to be a blessing for FC Bayern, otherwise Musiala would not have been signed.
“In principle it was a by-product of the unsuccessful transfer of Callum Hudson-Odoi, one has to say honestly,” admitted Rummenigge in an interview with

“A lucky twist of fate”: Rummenigge explains Musiala transfer
Because the negotiations over Hudson-Odoi failed, Bayern looked for other promising talents in the Chelsea academy and finally found them in Musiala.
The then 16-year-old finally moved to the record champions for 200,000 euros.
“In hindsight, it was a lucky twist of fate,” said Rummenigge.

While Musiala has since increased his market value five hundred times to over 100 million euros, Hudson-Odoi's career has been stagnating for years.
After his time in London, he moved to Bayern rivals Bayer Leverkusen on loan for the 2022/23 season, where he was unable to impress.
Last summer he moved to Premier League relegation candidate Notthingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Musiala continues to impress in Munich and is now an integral part of the national team.
He'll even have a special shirt number there in the future.
“His development is great, we don’t need to talk about it: the talent for movement, the dribbling, his goal threat – what he’s doing is at a very high level,” enthuses Rummenigge.
Bayern would like to extend the contract, which runs until 2026 - but his future apparently depends on several factors.
