Hapoel Tel Aviv fan Yam Berger (24) from Moshav Kfar Hess was arrested yesterday (Sunday) on suspicion of taking part in the serious assault incident that took place yesterday against a Hapoel Haifa fan at Shlomo Group Hall after the basketball game between the two teams.
The Magistrate's Court in Tel Aviv today extended his detention by three more days.
"This is a suspect who, along with others, took part in brutality for no apparent reason," claimed at the beginning of the hearing a representative of the Yarkon District Police, Sergeant Yoni Hirschhorn. "They attacked a fan of a competing basketball team.
There is a video in which he is recorded and he maintains the right to remain silent.
The complainant was lying on the floor and the suspect was seen brutally hitting him with what appeared to be a drum stick."
The incident occurred after the end of the game, when most of the crowd had already left the venue. A brawl broke out between the fans of the two teams and it ended when some of those from Hapoel Tel Aviv ran after the attacked fan On the floor of the hall, he was punched and kicked. Two people were taken to the hospital for treatment and the police announced that they would open an investigation.

This is not the first time Berger has been arrested following basketball games he attended as a fan of the team.
"This is about someone who has been arrested more than once through no fault of his own," asserted attorney Assaf Almaviya, who represents Berger. He also criticized the investigating unit and claimed that they should have obtained a video with a better resolution since that serious incident. "There is a fear of disruption (of the investigation) ) at a very low bar.
His fiancee is here who can watch over him.
They live in Kfar Hess.
I will ask to order his release and, alternatively, to reduce the days of detention."
Judge Binyamin Hirschel Doron noted that the intensity of seeing the documentation in which the suspect appears is not high, but that he "believes that it is sufficient for the purpose of the initial stage we are in." Finally, he ordered Berger's detention to be extended by three days additional due to the fact that he may pose a danger to the public due to the offense attributed to him.
