Sebastian Vettel remains open to a comeback in motorsport.

The 36-year-old is now completing test drives in a new racing car for Porsche.

Aragon - This news makes German motorsport fans once again dream of a comeback by Sebastian Vettel: The Heppenheimer will be taking part in test drives for the Porsche Penske Motorsport team in the week before Easter.

In Aragon, Spain, Vettel gets into the Porsche 963, which will also take part in the 24-hour race at Le Mans (June 15th/16th).

Vettel takes part in test drives for Porsche: “It will be a new experience”

“I’m looking forward to testing the Porsche 963,” Vettel is quoted as saying in a Porsche press release: “I’ve always followed other racing series and my curiosity for long distances encouraged me to just give it a try.

Now I’m excited about the endurance race in Aragon and am looking forward to my time behind the wheel.”

The 53-time Grand Prix winner had already prepared for the Motorland Aragon circuit in the simulator and used the in-house test track at the development center in Weissach for his first outing in the racing car.

“It will definitely take some adjustment and some getting used to, but the entire team is very open and will help me with that.

This will be a new experience for me,” said Vettel happily.

Porsche test drives an indication of a comeback?

Vettel is keeping a low profile

Meanwhile, Porsche hopes to benefit from the four-time world champion's many years of motorsport experience and gain important insights into the new car.

“There was no question for us that we would be happy to support his request for a test opportunity and give him extensive preparation and sufficient time behind the wheel of our hybrid prototype - we can certainly learn a lot from his valuable feedback,” explained Thomas Laudenbach, Head of Motorsport at Porsche.

Laudenbach did not want to comment on whether Vettel was also a potential driver for the 24-hour classic in Le Mans - and Vettel himself is not in the cards either.

“We will see how things continue after that – at the moment there are no further intentions for the future,” said Vettel.

Vettel remains interested in the World Endurance Championship

Since his retirement in 2022, there have been repeated rumors about Vettel returning to the motorsport circus.

Recently he was even linked to a Formula 1 comeback with the Mercedes team.

Now a start at the World Endurance Championships doesn't seem to be out of the question.

He confirmed last year that Vettel was looking into this option.

“I have the matter in the back of my mind,” he said meaningfully about a possible start at the World Endurance Championships.

If this actually happens, Vettel would also meet an old friend: Mick Schumacher is racing for Alpine at the World Endurance Championship - and would certainly be happy to have Vettel's German company.
