The Frenchwoman Chloé Bened has ended her biathlon career with immediate effect and is commenting on the reasons.
Munich - The 2023/24 biathlon season is in the books and several athletes ended their careers with the last race, including the German biathlon star Benedikt Doll.
But not everyone announced their resignation because they would like to do something new.
There are also career ends due to injuries, for example with Chloé Bened, who is just 21 years old.
Biathlon ace ends career at 21
“I'm quitting biathlon before I become disgusted with my passion.
For the third time in a row I had to end my winter early due to an injury.
This time it’s the back and shins,” she explained in an interview with
Nordicmag
.
The injuries posed a great mystery to the doctors and could not be brought under control even with various therapies.
A difficult situation for the Frenchwoman, who also hasn't had a good time outside of biathlon recently.
“Between 2023 and 2024 there were events in my life that took a toll on me both physically and mentally.
That’s why I decided at the turn of the year to stop,” Bened continued.

“The end of a great adventure.
It all started in 2008 and my great biathlon career ends in 2024. With huge memories and unforgettable moments, I announce the end of this wonderful adventure.
Thank you to everyone who has accompanied, followed and supported me over the years.
The high level is over for me, but the biathlon will remain in my memory.
“I could never forget these beautiful years,” wrote the 21-year-old on her Instagram channel.
Injuries are the reason for biathlete Bened's retirement
“After several months of suffering, I preferred to say stop and keep my wonderful image of biathlon.
Time for me to start a new chapter in my life without forgetting the first,” explained Chloé Bened and received a lot of encouragement from fans and fellow competitors from the biathlon circus.
