Will this change his farewell program?

Andy Murray badly twisted his left ankle overnight from Monday to Tuesday at the Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Miami.

While the score was 5-5 in the third set against the Czech Tomas Machac, the Briton cried out in pain and ended up giving up in the tie-break (5-7, 7-5, 7-6 [5]).

This defeat in the third round, after convincing successes against the Italian Matteo Berretini and the Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, marks a serious setback for the former world number one, now 62nd in the ATP.

Last month, he announced that he wanted to end his magnificent career “probably” after the summer.

But will he be able to return to competition by then?

The 37-year-old Scot said on Instagram that he suffered a complete rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament and an almost complete rupture of the calcaneofibular ligament.

“It goes without saying that this is difficult to accept and that I will be away for an extended period of time.

I will see an ankle specialist when I return home to determine the next steps,” added the three-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic singles champion.

The bet promises to be very perilous given that over the last two seasons, he has only played 11 matches on this surface.

He also indicated that he had an eye on the Olympic Games in Paris, which will take place after Wimbledon, where the farewells at home promise to be more than moving.
