This year, Matthijs de Ligt has once again played a solid role in FC Bayern's defense.
The Dutchman is also committed to the club.
Munich – It wasn't an easy start to the season for Bayern central defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The Dutchman repeatedly struggled with injuries at the start of the season and missed many games for FC Bayern.
But he is now back in the starting line-up and is now publicly committed to the German record champions.
De Ligt had a difficult start to the season at FC Bayern
In the summer of 2022, FC Bayern paid approximately 67 million euros to Juventus Turin to secure the services of Matthijs de Ligt.
Ever since Ajax Amsterdam enchanted the Champions League in 2019 and the then 19-year-old led the team onto the pitch as captain, he was considered the central defender of the future.
And at FC Bayern he also developed into an important defensive player in his first year.
But the current season got off to a slow start for the Dutch international.
Injuries repeatedly set him back, so that he was only the number three central defender behind Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae.
However, de Ligt is now playing regularly again.

De Ligt raves about Musiala and expresses his commitment to FC Bayern
On Tuesday evening, de Ligt and the Dutch national team will meet some of his club colleagues.
He particularly raved about Jamal Musiala, who has recently been wearing number ten in the DFB uniform.
“His dribbling skills are incredible, especially for his age.
I haven't seen so many players who are so good so young," he said about his teammate at FC Bayern at the Dutch national team's press conference.
There has also been speculation about his future as the defender has been linked with other clubs in the past.
When asked whether he and Musiala could leave Munich in the summer, he said with a laugh: “On vacation?!” But no, de Ligt added, he and Musiala had no other plans.
“I hope for us and for Bayern that we both stay,” affirmed de Ligt.

De Ligt: The rivalry is different
The Netherlands and Germany have a long rivalry and many historic encounters.
The 47th game between the two national teams will take place on Tuesday.
“The rivalry is still there,” confirmed de Ligt, “but different than it was during this time when these legendary things happened.”
The duels between Germany and the Netherlands would “always be something special”.
De Ligt was “not surprised” by the class of the Germans in the 2-0 win in France. “I play with some of them and know what quality they have.
Hopefully we have an answer ready.”
