Broken Wings: The Troubled History and Ambiguous Future of Solomon - Voila! sport

2024-03-26T13:15:45.687Z

Highlights: Maccabi Petah Tikva's Manor Solomon has been out for 173 days with a meniscus injury. The 25-year-old has been absent due to injuries in 10 different cases and underwent four surgeries - three of them only this season. In total, Solomon missed a cumulative 597 days and 75 games, very high numbers for a player his age. If the latest predictions that he won't play again this season come to pass, he will miss over 200 days, in what is already becoming a worrying trend.

Impressive whenever he's on the pitch, but already carrying a medical bag that's starting to look like a red flag. The latest estimates increase the uncertainty

Even in an era where Israeli football manages to produce quite a few young talents, Manor Solomon was and remains the great hope of the industry.

But the eternal child of Maccabi Petah Tikva is actually no longer really a child, and when he is approaching the age of 25 and dealing with another bothersome injury - the question marks surrounding his physical durability are increasing.

Solomon continues to impress almost every minute he is on the field, even in the most demanding and challenging league in the world, but there is only one problem: he spends much more time on the treatment bed or in the stands.

The current meniscus injury that Solomon has been carrying around since October 2023 has kept him out for 173 days so far - and counting.

If the latest predictions that he won't play again this season come to pass, he will miss over 200 days, in what is already becoming a worrying trend.

At the beginning of his career, before he left Israel, Solomon suffered only minor injuries, but in recent years he has not only been injured quite a bit, but also more seriously.

In total, since the beginning of his career, Solomon has been absent due to injuries in 10 different cases and underwent four surgeries - three of them only this season.

In fact, Solomon missed a cumulative 597 days and 75 games, very high numbers for a player his age.

Once it was a muscle injury that disabled him for three months at Shakhtar Donetsk, and another time a series of injuries in the Tottenham uniform, from which he has not been able to recover to this day.

If you add to that the long period in which he was sidelined due to the war in Ukraine, you get a player with a lot of potential, but not enough receipts and experience.

An all too familiar pose.

Tweeter Roy Zega checked and found that at the beginning of 2022, in a period spread over more than 26 months, Solomon played only 2,007 minutes in all settings, including appearances in Fulham, Tottenham and the Israel national team.

Solomon's long and frequent absences from the courts may have immediate consequences for his career, which, while still expected to be long and significant, may also be remembered as a miss.

Just a few weeks ago, it was reported in England about the possibility of Tottenham releasing Solomon in the summer, four years before the end of his contract, due to problematic availability and a problematic cumulative effect of injuries and attrition.

Even if it doesn't happen and Solomon continues in the Roosters uniform, he will have to avoid further injuries - both to drive a real stake in the team, and to remove the question marks that are already beginning to be heard about him.

World football is full of stories of players who have had a missed career because of too fragile a body.

Marco Reus was injured no less than 68 times during his career;

Arian Ruben hung up his shoes after 58 injuries;

Franck Ribery did this only after 72 (!) injuries;

Each of those names has been absent 1,300 days and north over a career.

Solomon has reached almost half of that amount, but can only hope not to catch up.
