Germany's European Championship euphoria is growing - also thanks to newcomers like Stuttgart's whiz kid Maximilian Mittelstädt.

His mother revealed private details in 2019.

Frankfurt – Ten months ago he was relegated from the Bundesliga with Hertha BSC.

He wasn't even one of the permanent staff there.

He is now on course for the Champions League with VfB Stuttgart and was pleased about his first nomination for the German national team.

And in the 2-1 win against the Netherlands, Maximilian Mittelstädt crowned his rapid rise with a truly dream goal, which received praise from national coach Nagelsmann.

The complete truth also includes the fact that the now 27-year-old was previously partly to blame for the Dutch's opening goal and that he revealed defensive weaknesses time and again in the game against France.

But who can blame the Berlin native?

After all, his entire international experience is based on three Europa League group games in 2017 with Hertha.

After all: the left-back was on the pitch for 90 minutes each against Zorya Lugansk, Athletic Bilbao and Östersunds FK.

Old TV recordings from Mittelstädt are suddenly relevant again

But now Mittelstädt has completely different dimensions in mind.

Thanks to his two appearances in March, a nomination for the European Football Championship in Germany is extremely likely.

This completes a circle - because recently an old TV recording came to light again, which made people smile then and now.

What happened?

In April 2019, Mittelstädt was a guest on the show “100 percent Bundesliga” on RTL Nitro.

The parents of the then Hertha player were also in the studio.

Mother revealed it on TV: DFB whiz kid conceived at historic football event

Moderator Laura Wontorra also addressed Mama Viola directly, saying: “There is a very interesting story about the 1996 European Championships.” While father Olaf already suspected what was coming and turned away with narrowed eyes, his wife replied with a laugh: “ Yes, exactly, that’s where the Maxi came from.”

Wontorra replied, while his son looked a little embarrassed in the background: “Great, a real EM baby.

It was a good year to produce German footballers.” In 1996, the DFB team became European champions for the last time – a historic moment in the history of the national team.

The German games took place between June 9th and 30th, 1996, Maximilian Mittelstädt was born on March 18th, 1997.

Maximilian Mittelstädt's mother Viola revealed on TV in 2019 that her son was conceived during the 1996 European Championships.

28 years later he will now probably be at the European Championships himself.

Mittelstädt in April 2019: National team “is of course a big dream”

Wontorra then naturally asked Mittelstädt directly when he would be seen in the senior national team.

At this point in time – and actually until his move to Stuttgart in the summer of 2023 and the subsequent explosion in performance – this scenario was rather unlikely.

The then 22-year-old emphasized: “Yes, that is of course a big dream.

I'm now working towards achieving this goal at some point." In contrast to another DFB newcomer, Mittelstädt can now tick the first few boxes after nomination, debut and goal.

There is still a big tournament missing and possibly even a title for the European Championship baby from 1996.
