Split

Julian Nagelsmann seems to have already found his team for the 2024 European Championship.

A newcomer was not used at all in the most recent DFB games.

Frankfurt – 2:0 over France, 2:1 over the Netherlands.

In addition, the celebrated return of Toni Kroos, the two magicians Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz and a clearly recognizable plan from national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Almost three months before the start of the European Football Championship in Germany, the DFB team is igniting new euphoria.

Nagelsmann newcomer Mittelstädt plays straight away

On the one hand, this is of course due to the positive results against two heavyweights, but on the other hand it is also due to the national team's refreshing style of play.

Newcomers like Maximilian Mittelstädt, who scored a dream goal against the Netherlands to make it 1-1, also contribute to this.

The new faces of the DFB team, but also the players who have already been nominated several times and are now making a name for themselves (like Robert Andrich), represent the latest departure under Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann newcomer Beier experiences the bitterest DFB scenario

One who was also one of the newcomers is Hoffenheim's attacker Maximilian Beier.

Nagelsmann called up the 21-year-old for the first time, no surprise after his twelve goals and five assists this Bundesliga season.

The lightning-fast striker experienced the bitterest scenario imaginable on his first call-up: Beier wasn't allowed to play a single second and sat on the bench for 180 minutes - as the only one of the four debutants.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann (l.) nominated Maximilian Beier for the March international matches.

However, the Hoffenheim player was not used.

Maximilian Beier without playing time in his first DFB nomination

Mittelstädt was in the starting line-up twice, and his colleagues from VfB Stuttgart – Deniz Undav and Waldemar Anton – were substituted on in the final phase against France.

Beier had to watch completely.

Of the field players, only Frankfurt's Robin Koch had this experience.

The two goalkeepers Bernd Leno and Oliver Baumann were also not used, which is not unusual for substitute goalkeepers.

The question remains: What are Beier's chances at the European Championship?

Nagelsmann made it clear that he already had most of his squad together.

With Leroy Sané, who committed to FC Bayern before the game against the Netherlands, there is another star who is sure to join the squad.

However, he was suspended for both matches.

Nagelsmann's puzzle for the European Championship squad: room for Beier?

Players like Beier, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Jan-Niklas Beste (both were nominated, but had to leave for health reasons), Leon Goretzka, the disappointed Jonas Hofmann or the entire Dortmund squad around Julian Brandt, Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, Mats Hummels and Niklas Süle are candidates for the 23-man squad.

But of course there isn't room for everyone.

Nagelsmann still has to select his final squad.

The fact is: With his speed and simultaneous power, Beier has attributes that hardly any of his competitors combine so well.

An advantage for the Hoffenheimer, who can still have hopes for his European Championship ticket.
