What's next for Julian Nagelsmann after the European Championships?
BVB, among others, should have hopes.
But the trail to Dortmund grew cold.
Munich – Julian Nagelsmann has been national coach for just six months.
And his next stop is already being discussed.
Nagelsmann himself made sure of this - on the one hand because of his contract expiring after the European Championships, and on the other hand because of his recently expressed wish to have clarity about his future before the European Championships.
The DFB is already practicing wooing: President Bernd Neuendorf and deputy Hans-Joachim Watzke made it clear that they would like to extend the contract with Nagelsmann.
“The DFB has a very good national coach in Julian Nagelsmann and it is logical that they are trying to keep him longer,” emphasized Watzke on Sky.
Where will Julian Nagelsmann start after the European Championships?
And what does Nagelsmann want?
If you listen to him carefully, it becomes clear that the 36-year-old sees himself as a player developer who needs the daily work on the training pitch.
“I don’t have any training,” he recently explained about his job as national coach and sounded a little resigned.
“We won’t be able to develop much through training during this course,” he complained before the France game.
A commitment to a club seems most likely.
There has recently been speculation about Borussia Dortmund or Newcastle United – and also a Bayern return.

Nagelsmann to BVB?
Change unlikely
As Sky reports, one of the options is now off the table: Nagelsmann is not moving to BVB, the national coach has other plans.
In addition, the fact that BVB boss Watzke is campaigning for Nagelsmann to stay in the DFB does not necessarily indicate that Dortmund are particularly interested.
In plain language: Either Nagelsmann hires abroad, or there will actually be a reunification with FC Bayern, which is looking for a Tuchel successor.
According to
Sport Bild
, Nagelsmann should be able to imagine this, Sky speaks of Nagelsmann supporters in Bavaria's leadership team.
Jan-Christian Dreesen did not rule out such a scenario.

It is no secret that FCB President Herbert Hainer was taken by surprise by Nagelsmann's expulsion.
Uli Hoeneß even explicitly spoke of a mistake afterwards.
Lothar Matthäus can also imagine Nagelsmann returning to Bayern – it would be “something very special” for him.
“For me, Nagelsmann was a good fit for Bayern Munich.
Whether he does that again, albeit under different managers and under a different hierarchy, is up to him,” said the record national player, assessing the situation in his Sky column.
