Ronda Rousey took quite a few bloody beatings during a rich career in MMA, but recently she revealed that it was a confrontation at the beginning of her career in WWE with Stephanie McMahon, the daughter of former owner Vince McMahon and one of the top officials in the organization herself, that left an indelible impression on her.
At the 2018 Elimination Chamber event, Rousey participated in a staged segment in which she was supposed to sign her WWE contract as part of a planned storyline.
A confrontation ensued where she slammed Triple H (Paul Levesque) on the table.
His wife Stephanie entered the ring to defend him and slapped Rousey hard.
Rousey did not forget this blow.
"That slap gave me a concussion," Rousey revealed in an interview with Cageside Seats and said that she spent a lot of time taking photos and medical tests in the hope that no damage would be found.
"They did brain imaging (head MRI) and I said: 'Please don't find out that everything is just falling apart in the inside of my skull'. But in the end they said everything looked great. I was given permission to fight, but just not to talk about this matter."
The event in question at the moment of signing the contract in 2018
Rousey managed to settle a certain score with McMahon, as part of their on-screen rivalry.
Weeks after that slap, she teamed with Kurt Angle in a match against McMahon and Triple H at WrestleMania.
Rousey performed a trick that made Stephanie submit and gave her and Angle the win.
McMahon made her name as a powerful WWE executive and for years appeared on screen in addition to being a board member.
Although not a professional wrestler, she occasionally entered the ring and participated in fights, also alongside her husband.
Rousey revealed the story as part of the promotional campaign for her autobiography Our Fight which will be published next month.
She swore to WWE that she would not return: "I don't need anything from them and I have no intention of going back there, so I can say what I think and feel while everyone is still being held captive by their organization."
