The French Caroline Garcia (27th in the world), diminished by a painful right shoulder as in the two previous rounds, was beaten in the quarter-final of the WTA 1000 in Miami by the American Danielle Collins (53rd), who dominated her 6- 3, 6-2 in 1 hour 20 minutes, Wednesday.

Danielle Collins is definitely not succeeding against Caroline Garcia, who now has four defeats in four matches against her, without the slightest set won.
Danielle Collins will meet her compatriot Jessica Pegula (5th) or the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (16th) for a place in the final.
Garcia started the game timidly, only managing his first winning return at 3-2 for his opponent.
It was Collins, excellent in returns, who obtained the first break point of the set at 4-3.
Garcia saved her with an ace, but the second was the right one for the American, who broke away 5-3 and obtained three set points on her serve.
Garcia was only able to save two, and Collins won a first set in which Garcia made far too many unforced errors (18) 6-3 in 36 minutes.
In the second set, Collins made the break on his first opportunity, on a forehand attack into the net from Garcia, to lead 2-1.
The Lyonnaise then called on the physiotherapist to have her right shoulder, which she has been suffering for several days, manipulated, as in the two previous rounds.
When play resumed, Collins confirmed his break to lead 3-1.
Scathing in returns, alternating cross strikes and along the line to often overtake Garcia, the American even managed a double break at 4-2 to lead 5-2, then victoriously conclude this quarter with a shutout, her fourth of the match.
Another sign of Garcia's helplessness: she did not get any break points.
