The only thing that separates Robert Lewandowski from taking part in the 2024 European Championship is the playoff final. But now, of all times, the ex-FCB striker is in crisis.
Warsaw – Robert Lewandowski and a significant goal lull? That doesn't actually fit together. But it was with the Polish national team that the otherwise very accurate striker was going through a difficult time. The 35-year-old now spoke openly, as he rarely did, about his problems.
Lewandowski wants to book the European Championship ticket with Poland
Poland already has one foot in the field for the 2024 European Championships in Germany. There is one last hurdle for Lewandowski and his Polish teammates to overcome: the European Championship playoff final against Wales.
Should Poland prevail against the Welsh Dragons on Tuesday evening (kick-off at 8.45 p.m., all TV information can be found here), they will win a place in the European Championship Group D of death - with France, the Netherlands and Austria as their opponents in the preliminary round.
Lewandowski is experiencing a goal drought for the Polish national team
In the playoff duel against Wales, Poland is actually considered the underdog - despite Lewandowski's goal machine. Or precisely because the ex-Bayern striker doesn't seem to be scoring for the national team anymore?
In fact, Lewandowski's performance records over the last few years with Poland read rather straightforward. In 2022 and 2023 he only scored four international goals. People are actually used to different numbers from the two-time world footballer, who even broke FCB legend Gerd Müller's goalscoring record in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski's name did not appear among the goal scorers on the scoresheet in Poland's 5-1 playoff semi-final against Estonia either. Despite his team's important victory, FC Barcelona's star striker is clearly affected by his current goal crisis.

Wales in the playoff final against Poland with home advantage
Will the goalscorer, in whose footsteps Bayern's new star striker Harry Kane is following, get rid of his frustration against Wales? In any case, the Welsh are going into the match against Poland with a lot of self-confidence. In the semi-finals, Robert Page's team had no trouble with Finland and won 4-1.
In addition, Wales enjoys home advantage, as they did in the playoff semi-finals: the almost 33,000 fans in the Cardiff City Stadium will whip their dragons forward again.
