Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is working on his comeback. The seriously injured ski superstar names the time for his return.

Oslo – Will Aleksander Aamodt Kilde ever ski again? This question is likely to be on the minds of fans and experts during the upcoming summer break. The Norwegian himself is now raising hopes of a comeback. But the way back on skis is likely to be difficult.

“I have set myself the goal of training with the team as normally as possible in June,” Kilde told Norway’s

. But he doesn't yet know whether that's possible. It is difficult to say “how the injury will develop since no one has been through something like that before”.

Kilde back to its former strength? Future of ski superstar uncertain

“There was so much damage that the nerves in the shoulder were also strained. So if I still want a lightning fast start, I still have to do something. But at the moment I have little strength in my shoulder,” said Kilde. And the toes are still causing problems too. “The muscle tendons that move my toes were cut off. In a way, the nerves have been sewn back on. This will need time".

But he could grab and push off. “That's very good. If I have to jump and run, that's totally fine. “That’s good for a possible future career,” said Kilde. The shoes are working “very well,” explained the best downhill skier of the past two years. “But when I run barefoot, it’s a challenge. In a slalom shoe I hope it goes well after a while. But that is the question. Will this have a negative impact on my skiing or is it okay?”

Kilde is working in rehab: Statements fuel hope

These statements give cause for hope; after all, Kilde's life was apparently in danger at some point, as his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin said. It sounded even less optimistic recently when Kilde gave an emotional update.

“Aleksander has had a serious injury and we have to wait one phase at a time. He is still in a relatively early stage in terms of healing nerves, tendons and muscles,” said national team doctor Trond Floberhaugen, dampening expectations a little. The initial focus is on “getting Aleksander back to health, and his rehabilitation is going as far as planned.”
