It was an ice hockey evening that will be remembered for a long time: The Miners and EHC Königsbrunn played a crazy third final game with many twists and turns.

Peißenberg

– In the end it was just a game of nerves – in which everything had to fit. It didn't work out for Ryan Murphy. The Miners striker opened the penalty shootout in front of over 2,200 spectators.

As he approached Königsbrunn's goalkeeper Stefan Vajs, the puck slipped off his stick and stayed there. It got off to a very unfortunate start, especially since Mika Reuter made a strong move to tempt TSV keeper Korbinian Sertl and net it.

This is how it continued: Martin Andrä failed to score against Vajs, while Hayden Trupp scored against Sertl. The final series in the Bayernliga was thus decided. The Miners also lost the third game, on Maundy Thursday it was 6:7 after a penalty shootout. EHC Königsbrunn, on the other hand, celebrated its second title in a row. TSV Peißenberg suffered its second final defeat after 2009 (against Schweinfurt). It was particularly bitter because for a long time it looked

as if TSV would force a fourth game

.

“It feels a bit surreal,” said EHC goalgetter Marco Sternheimer in the Sprade TV interview. The penguins were already behind by four goals on Thursday. “We didn't even think that we would come back.” Miners player Andrä was logically disappointed: “Unfortunately it wasn't enough. We were simply too unclever.” Nevertheless, the team can be proud that they had reached the final.

The crazy playoff evening started with an unmistakable message: “Get the cup” was written in large white letters on a mighty banner that was raised above the players' bench while the Peißenberg Miners players came onto the ice. To the left and right of the banner, the spectators in the packed stands waved red flags. Frank Butz was also impressed by the choreography. The BEV chairman, essentially the boss of the Bavarian ice hockey players, diligently took photos with his smartphone.

The Miners put pressure on from the initial face-off, Königsbrunn seemed surprised by the force of the attack. After 41 seconds, Lynnden Pastachak made it 1-0. Pastachak, of all people, whose contract extension for another two years was announced shortly before the start of the game - to the cheers of the TSV supporters, of course. The Miners whirled on; First Hörndl narrowly failed, then Dejan Vogl hit the crossbar while falling backwards and with a flick with the back of his bat. Peißenberg used the first power play to make it 2-0; Sinan Ondörtoglu completed a great move including a great cross pass from Dominic Krabbat to make it 2-0 (4th).

Königsbrunn now received a penalty against Peißenberg. With a one-timer that hit the angle with millimeter precision, Marco Sternheimer reduced the score to 1:2 (6th). Now the penguins were also in the game. TSV keeper Korbinian Sertl made a mega save against Peter Brückner. Shortly afterwards, Königsbrunn made it 2-2 (9th) following a quick counter move. Again Sternheimer aimed very precisely.

Peißenberg Miners lead 6:2 after the second third

As a result, the guests – as in the previous games – focused on preventing goals. That took some of the pace out of the game. However, the Peißenbergers did not allow themselves to be lulled and increased again towards the end of the third. Königsbrunn no longer looked nearly as solid defensively as in the first two games. After an action by Pastachak, Vogl deftly steered the disc into the net to make it 3-2 (19th). The fans were completely over the moon when Ryan Murphy made it 4-2 (20th) after great work from Martin Andrä. Six goals – that was two more than in the entire two games before.

Königsbrunn started the middle third with a period of urgency, but that brought nothing. Peißenberg survived a situation when he was outnumbered (28th), in which the goal was once ablaze. Afterwards, the Miners went into the power play due to a two-plus-two penalty against Hayden Trupp - and used it consistently. Ondörtoglu scored to make it 5:2 (33').

As a result, Peißenberg controlled what was happening. Even being outnumbered didn't unsettle the hosts. At Königsbrunn the moves no longer worked and the passes were inaccurate. For the Miners, however, things went like clockwork. Even the goalkeeper now shone as an assist provider: with a real arc lamp, just as Peißenberg was complete again, Sertl conveyed the puck to the completely free Ryan Murphy, who passed to EHC keeper Stefan Vajs and made it 6:2 (39th). increased. Immediately afterwards, the TSV keeper brilliantly parried David Farny's shot (40th). The signs were clearly pointing to victory.

Königsbrunn comes back after falling behind

In the final third, David Blaschta stood between the posts for EHC. First of all, something happened on the other side; Tim Bullnheimer shortened the score to 3:6 in the power play (41'). After that, Peißenberg had one more man on the ice. When the Miners shot on the power play, Vogl got the puck in the face and had to leave the ice bleeding. Peißenberg was forced to change, but everything was still in order.

Surprisingly, the guests made it 4:6 (46th): Mika Reuter brought the puck to the goal with a backhand shot, and Sternheimer deflected it. And just 42 later, Brückner even scored to make it 5:6. Suddenly everything was open again. To make matters worse, the Miners received a penalty straight away. The penguins now acted confidently again - Sternheimer promptly scored to make it 6:6 (49th). The momentum was now with the penguins. Sternheimer (51st) narrowly missed the seventh goal. An uncertainty from Blachta (59th) gave Peißenberg a huge opportunity; EHC player Dominik Erdt saved in dire need.

Ten minutes of extra time with four men each were announced. The guests had the first chance through Toms Prokopovics, on the other hand Valentin Hörndl tested the keeper. Both sides were – understandably – cautious. When the final siren sounded, Hörndl rushed towards Blaschta, but the puck didn't go over the line and time had expired.

Vajs returned to goal for the penalty shootout. However, he didn't have to intervene at first because Murphy slipped the disc as he approached the goal. In the end, Königsbrunn had the better end.
