Eintracht Frankfurt almost pulled off a real transfer coup last summer, but the player chose Bayer Leverkusen.
Frankfurt – There was a lot of movement in the Eintracht Frankfurt squad last summer. Some players left the club, including top performers such as Randal Kolo Muani (Paris Saint-Germain), Djibril Sow (Sevilla FC), Jesper Lindström (SSC Napoli), Evan Ndicka (AS Roma) and Daichi Kamada (Lazio Rome). In return, sports director Markus Krösche signed numerous new recruits, but he was turned down by a dream striker.
Eintracht conceded a basket from the center forward
Victor Boniface revealed the secret that Eintracht Frankfurt was trying hard for him. But it quickly became clear that he wanted to move to Bayer Leverkusen. “Frankfurt was the first club I spoke to. Then with Leverkusen. Bayer then really tried extremely hard to look after me and always stuck with it. That left a strong impression on me,” said the attacker in an interview with
Sport Bild
.
“When I flew to Nigeria on vacation, there were delays, which were probably due to Saint-Gilloise. “But I really wanted to go to Leverkusen, so I kept showing up in this red jersey to send a signal: I’m 100 percent ready for Bayer,” continued Boniface.

Eintracht Frankfurt would have liked to sign him, but in principle Krösche had no chance with the Sturm-Tank. The mutual affection between Boniface and Leverkusen developed shortly after the SGE call in March 2023. The Nigerian met the Werkself with Union Saint-Gilliose in the Europa League in April last year and was eliminated.

Boniface played 23 competitive games for Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions this season, in which he scored 16 goals and prepared eight more. The Werkself signed him from Saint-Gilliose for a fee of 20.5 million euros and thus made a real bargain. (
