IS is targeting football fans and threatening an attack on FC Bayern's game against Borussia Dortmund. The police have already responded.

Munich – France recently activated the highest terror alert level. It cannot be ruled out that Germany could follow this example. The night before the soccer match between FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, the Islamic State released images targeting soccer fans in front of the Allianz Arena. The security forces on site have already responded.

The threat from IS overshadows the top game in the Bundesliga

Table placements, players and lineups should actually be the focus of the upcoming top game. But the public terror threat from IS causes other issues to take a back seat.

Sarh al-Khilafah

, an ISIS broadcaster, released doctored images depicting spectators in front of the Allianz Arena in the crosshairs.

In one corner of the image you can see a manipulated score: “Kufar +500” (German: infidels) against “Islamic State”. This should be understood as a clear threat to kill people who want to visit the Allianz Arena. A time specification for the planned attack is also included. The playing time is displayed as 89:09.

The police see no immediate danger and are increasing the emergency services

Police were likely alerted to the threat shortly after the images were published. The Munich police released a statement on “As things currently stand,” however, there are no “concrete findings of danger.”

As a first reaction to the images, the police have already increased the number of emergency services at the game between the two top clubs. Normally there would only be around 300 to 500 police officers on duty, but they are now receiving reinforcements. It is not yet known how many additional staff will be deployed for use in the arena.
